5/6 Music Week of 5/25/20

Hey Mr. Manning's class!
I hope you've been able to play and sing songs these last few weeks.

The last few days of school, I'd like you to double check Class Notebook and make sure your work is all turned in. Please let me know if you have any questions!

5/6 Music Week of 5/18/20

Mr. Manning's class,
Make sure you check Class Notebook and complete all the assignments.

The assignments are under the "homework" tab.  If you have any issues finding it, email me and I will help.

Don't forget to take time to play an instrument, listen to your favorite songs, and sing!
Also, don't forget about the video lessons I posted last week - work through them and gain skills on an instrument.

5/6 Music Week of 5/11/20

Check your Class Notebook under "Homework" for your next assignment.

There's a link to a video about music and the brain. Follow along and answer the questions.

Also, check out the links I posted on the school website for the different instruments you want to learn.

There are video lessons for guitar, piano, ukulele, bass, and drums (even if you don't have a drum set). Move at your own pace, skip ahead to your skill level.  Take this time to learn a new instrument or hone your skills.

5/6 Music Week of 4/27/20

Hello music class!
This is your last week in music and I want to give you this time to make sure all your work is done and turned in.  Please check Class Notebook and make sure you've finished these assignments:
1. Music Questionnaire (homework tab)
2. Music History (Quizzes)
3. Music and the Brain
4. Choose your own assignment
    - recording of you playing or singing
or
    - short story

Choose Your Own Music Assignment (Due May 1st)

Hello music class!

This assignment has two options:
1. Pick a song you've been working on or already know and record yourself (audio or video is fine) playing or singing it. Send it to me in an email.
        a. Must be school appropriate
        b. Any instrument you have access to (including voice)
        c. Due May 1st by 5PM

OR

2. Choose one song from the list of songs below and write a short story (500 words minimum) describing what the song makes you think about. (Think of your favorite movies and the songs played in each scene, how they set the mood of the story).
For instance, maybe a song is fast and loud and makes you think of an action story or a song is calm and slow and makes you think of a stream flowing in a forest with characters on a journey.  Your job is to describe the scene the music makes you think of and write a short story about it.

Turn in through email (word file) or through Class Notebook.

Due May 1st by 5PM.
Song list: (with youtube link)

As always, please email me with any questions or concerns.

5/6 Music Week of 4/20/20

This week, you have a new assignment in your Class Notebook under "homework".  There is a short video about playing music and its impact on the brain.  Follow the video and answer the questions provided.

Playing music in a structured, disciplined way has shown benefits to the brain. It can enhance memory, problem solving, and makes the connection between the two hemispheres of your brain stronger.

Please continue to practice technique and play songs on the instruments you have access to. Use the links to the video lessons:

There will be another assignment posted this week so keep an eye on this page.

5/6 Music Week of 4/13/20

Check your Class Notebook under "Quizzes" for your next assignment.

There's a link to a video about music during the medieval period and a few questions about the information in the video.
