7/8 Music Week of 5/25/20

Hi music class!

I hope you've been able to practice instruments and sing songs these last few weeks while you've been at home.

For the last days leading up to summer, I want you to make sure all your work is turned in and that you're on your way to completing the end of year assignment.  Due Friday, May 29th

Let me know if you have any questions of concerns!

7/8 Music Week of 5/18/20

End of Year Assignment:
Check Class Notebook and make sure you've completed all the assignments for the quarter.

For your final assignment, you have the choice of recording 2 songs or doing a research paper.  Check under the "homework" tab for the details and please email me with any questions.

7/8 Music Week of 5/11/20

Check your "homework" tab for the new Music History assignment.  Watch the video and answer the questions.

Next week:
Be prepared to play or sing! Starting next week and continuing to the end of the school year, I would like you to perform a "concert" of your favorite two songs.

This assignment will be similar to last time when you had a choice between writing a paper or recording yourself playing or singing.  Be thinking of what songs you would want to perform if we had a concert and you wanted to showcase your best effort.

Those of you who wish to not perform, your option will be a research paper on the history of an instrument (your choice, but you MUST run it by me first).

The details will be posted next week, but get to brainstorming about your choices!

7/8 Music Week of 5/4/20

Hello Music class!
I hope everyone is doing well.  I enjoyed listening to the songs that some of you sent in for your project.  If you haven't done that, you still have time to turn something in for the "Choose Your Own Assignment" project.

This week, we'll be looking at some music history, specifically the Renaissance Period.  Under the "homework" tab in Class Notebook, you will find a few questions and a link to the YouTube video with the answers.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns!  Don't forget you can always request a Zoom meeting with me.

7/8 Music Week of 4/27/20

Hello music class!
This is your last week in music and I want to give you this time to make sure all your work is done and turned in.  Please check Class Notebook and make sure you've finished these assignments:
1. Music Questionnaire (homework tab)
2. Music History (Quizzes)
3. Music and the Brain
4. Choose your own assignment
    - recording of you playing or singing
or
    - short story

Choose Your Own Music Assignment (Due May 1st)

Hello music class!

This assignment has two options:
1. Pick a song you've been working on or already know and record yourself (audio or video is fine) playing or singing it. Send it to me in an email.
        a. Must be school appropriate
        b. Any instrument you have access to (including voice)
        c. Due May 1st by 5PM

OR

2. Choose one song from the list of songs below and write a short story (500 words minimum) describing what the song makes you think about. (Think of your favorite movies and the songs played in each scene, how they set the mood of the story).
For instance, maybe a song is fast and loud and makes you think of an action story or a song is calm and slow and makes you think of a stream flowing in a forest with characters on a journey.  Your job is to describe the scene the music makes you think of and write a short story about it.

Turn in through email (word file) or through Class Notebook.

Due May 1st by 5PM.
Song list: (with youtube link)

As always, please email me with any questions or concerns.

7/8 Music Week of 4/20/20

This week, you have a new assignment in your Class Notebook under "homework".  There is a short video about playing music and its impact on the brain.  Follow the video and answer the questions provided.

Playing music in a structured, disciplined way has shown benefits to the brain. It can enhance memory, problem solving, and makes the connection between the two hemispheres of your brain stronger.

Please continue to practice technique and play songs on the instruments you have access to. Use the links to the video lessons:

There will be another assignment posted this week so keep an eye on this page.

7/8 Music Week of 4/13/20

Check your Class Notebook under "Quizzes" for your next assignment.

There's a link to a video about music during the medieval period and a few questions about the information in the video.

Also, check out the links I posted on the school website for the different instruments you want to learn. There are video lessons for guitar, piano, ukulele, bass, and drums (even if you don't have a drum set). Move at your own pace, skip ahead to your skill level.  Take this time to learn a new instrument or hone your skills.

7-8 Music Class Week of 4/6/20

Hello Music class!

I sent all students in 7-8 music class an email with information you'll need this quarter. Email me if you did not receive that email and you believe you're supposed to be in music.

You will need to get familiar with OneNote and Class Notebook. This first week, you will be filling out a questionnaire on OneNote about music.  This will help you get accustomed to Class Notebook and turning work in online.

Please feel free to email me any questions you may have.

If you would like to ask a question/have a meeting with me, email me for the link and password.

My office hours on Zoom are:
Monday 8AM-9AM
Friday 8AM-9AM
