Meet Ms. Baumann
Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, I was very fortunate to be surrounded by a large, close-knit German family. Growing up, I spent a lot of time galivanting around the city and being part of an ethnic German dance group, American Aid Society of German Descendants. I attended Eastern Illinois University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and discovered my passion for creating meaningful learning experiences for children.
My teaching journey began in 2012 with Chicago Public Schools, where I had the opportunity to teach 5th through 8th grade writing. In 2013, I relocated to beautiful Colorado and joined Adams 14, where I taught fourth grade. Wanting to deepen my understanding of child development and individualized learning, I earned my Lower Elementary Montessori Credential in 2014. Up until this year, I have been leading a lower elementary Montessori classroom of 1st-3rd grade students. Montessori philosophy has profoundly shaped my teaching, inspiring me to foster independence, curiosity, and a genuine love of learning in every child.
I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the Westgate community this year! Westgate's commitment to educating the whole child aligns so naturally with the Montessori philosophy that has guided my career. I believe children thrive when they feel seen, valued, and empowered, and I am excited to partner with students and families to create a joyful, engaging, and supportive classroom where every learner can flourish.
When I'm not in the classroom, my partner Kelly and I love to be outside exploring everything Colorado has to offer. I love hiking scenic trails, biking, taking long walks, and spending time near rivers, lakes, or just about any body of water. Nature is where I recharge and find inspiration. I'm also a huge animal lover, and one of my favorite ways to unwind is spending time with my sweet cat, Mango, who always keeps life entertaining with cuddles and playful antics.
I can't wait to get to know each of my students and their families and to make this a wonderful year filled with growth, discovery, laughter, and learning!
