Animal Adventures

Dear Families,

Our second grade students have been working on a science unit called Animal Adventures through Mystery Science. Throughout this unit, students are exploring the diversity of animals and the different environments in which they live.

Here are some of the concepts we are working on in this unit:

  • Biodiversity and Classification: Students explore a variety of living things and learn how scientists group and classify organisms based on their characteristics.
  • Habitat Diversity: Students investigate different habitats and learn how environments provide what living things need to survive.
  • Biodiversity, Habitats, and Species: Students examine the connections between animals, their habitats, and the variety of species that live in different environments.
  • Biodiversity and Engineering: Students explore how people can use engineering and scientific thinking to understand, protect, and support living things and their habitats.

Through hands-on investigations, observations, discussions, and science activities, students will develop their ability to ask questions, gather information, identify patterns, and communicate their ideas.

This unit provides students with opportunities to learn more about the living world while developing an understanding of the many ways animals, habitats, and people are connected.
