This week, I am sending home the attached i-Ready Family Letter for Lesson 4: Draw and Use Bar Graphs and Picture Graphs, which we began this past Friday. To view the attachment, click on the title of this post—it’s a hyperlink that will take you to the PDF of the family letter.

In class, students are learning how picture graphs and bar graphs can be used to organize and show data. They will practice reading graphs, comparing information, and using the data to answer questions.

The family letter includes examples of both types of graphs and a simple at-home activity using coins to create a picture graph and a bar graph. I encourage you to review the letter and try the activity with your child to reinforce what we are learning in class.

MAPS Testing: Our math NWEA Maps test was administered last Wednesday, August 19 at 8:15 AM.

In class, students are learning several mental math strategies to solve subtraction problems, including counting on, making a ten, and using fact families. The family letter explains these strategies with examples and includes a fun at-home game that you can play together to reinforce your child's learning. We encourage you to take a few minutes to review the letter and complete the activity with your child.
