Identification for Gifted Education Services
Based on the Exceptional Children's Educational Act (ECEA), a child may be identified for gifted education services when their needs are "so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs."
These services are based on a body of evidence. This evidence includes information about the student that helps us understand their strengths and needs.
We identify students in academic areas throughout the school year. For areas such as leadership, creative or productive thinking, visual arts, music, psychomotor, and performing arts, we identify students once a year in the spring.
When a student is identified for gifted services, they will have an Advanced Learning Plan with goals for academic and social-emotional growth. You can learn more about Advanced Learning Plans, or ALPs, here.
