Get to know Ms. Powell:

Before joining Westgate, I was the Executive Director of Soccer Shots, where I helped bring soccer, smiles, and teamwork to some of the smallest players around! I loved creating fun, confidence-building experiences—especially since for many children, it was their very first introduction to sports and being part of a team. Those joyful moments, high-fives, and little wins continued to fuel my passion for teaching, mentoring, and supporting kids as they grow.

I am so excited to bring that same energy and heart to the students at Westgate! When I’m not in the counselor’s office, you’ll likely find me spending time with my dog, Hazel, skiing or hiking outdoors, traveling, or relaxing with family and friends. I also love winding down with a good book.

 

Why did you want to become a school counselor?

As a former soccer player and coach, I had the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with young people and support them through both challenges and successes. Those experiences showed me just how powerful guidance, encouragement, and a trusted adult can be in a child’s life. This inspired me to pursue a career as a school counselor, where I can support students as they learn, grow, and thrive, both academically and personally.
