Week of September 14th

Week – Frindle Book Study – Chapters 7 - 9 

Parents – Any document that students are expected to work on can now also be found as printable PDF in Teams.  To access these, please go to the Language Arts Teams page and click PDFs on the left-hand side.  Find the corresponding folder for the week.  I have named the files to match what they say for kids in the description below.  If you plan on printing files for your child(ren), please contact me so we can discuss how those files can be submitted.   

Monday – Vocabulary 

Complete Monday 4 of the Daily Language Review Packet. Review the vocabulary words for the week.  Write down the definition of each word on the first page of the packet called “Ch. 7 – 9”.  on Teams.  This can be found by clicking on Class Notebook.  Then click the purple arrow [>].  Click your name.  Click on Frindle.  Click on Ch. 7 – 9.  The definitions of these words can be found in the PDFs channel in Teams.  Then click on Files.  Click on the corresponding link and find the PDF called “Frindle Vocab. Ch. 7 – 9".   

Tuesday – Vocabulary & Reading 

Complete Tuesday 4 of the Daily Language Review Packet. Complete page 2 of the packet called “Ch. 7 – 9”, except for the bottom that says “A little extra”.  This can be found by clicking on Class Notebook.  Then click the purple arrow [>].  Click your name.  Click on Frindle.  Click on Ch. 7 – 9.  The definitions of these words can be found in the PDFs channel in Teams.  Then click on Files.  Click on the corresponding link and find the PDF called “Frindle Vocab. Ch. 7 – 9".   

Read chapters 7 and 8 on your own.   

Wednesday – In-person Learning Day – No assignment 

Thursday (graded assignment) – Thursday 4 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review). Students will work on the packet for Chapters - 9, which can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Frindle” tab.  This is a 2-day assignment.  Students are not expected to finish this on Thursday.  The audio version for each chapter is in a channel on the Teams page should the students need. 

Friday (graded assignment continued) - Friday Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review). Finish the Chapters 7 – 9 packet in Class Notebook. 

Week of September 8th

Week 3 – Frindle Book Study – Chapters 4 - 6

Monday - Labor Day – No School – Students are not required to complete any assignments. 

Tuesday – Complete the Friday 2 Daily Language Review, as well as Monday 3.  We will review these answers as a class. Students preview the week’s vocabulary words and write down their definitions in the Ch. 4 – 6 packet that is posted on Teams.  A PDF of the vocabulary words will be posted into teams under the PDFs channel.  Click on “Files”, then “Week of September 8th”.   Students should also read chapter 4 by themselves.  If necessary, there is a read aloud link under “Files” as well.  Please do not go past chapter 4. 

Wednesday - Direct instruction via Zoom, 9:30 -10:00 a.m.  

Wednesday 3 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  We will review the vocabulary words and what occurred in chapter 4 of Frindle.  We will read chapters 5 & 6 together, focusing on plot events & vocabulary.  Their assignment for Wednesday is to complete the Chapter Map for chapter 6.  The assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Frindle” tab.  The audio version for each chapter is in a channel on the Teams page should the students need. 

Thursday (graded assignment) – Thursday 3 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review). Students will complete the Chapters 4-6 packet, which can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Frindle” tab.  This assignment will be explained during class, so students know what to do.  This is a 2-day assignment.  Students are not expected to finish this on Thursday.  The audio version for each chapter is in a channel on the Teams page should the students need.

Week 2 – Frindle Book Study – Chapters 1 - 3

Monday – Monday 2 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet. This should be completed before Literacy class at 9:30am. We will review these answers as a class. We will begin our book study by reviewing vocabulary words that will be present in chapters 1 – 3.  Students will write down these vocabulary words.  There is a copy of this sheet on Class Notebook under “Frindle”.  We will also read chapter 1 together.  There was a copy of this book in the blue Westgate backpack.

Wednesday - Wednesday 2 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet. We will review these answers as a class. We will read chapters 2 & 3 together, identifying aspects of the story as well as vocabulary words that were previously discussed.  Their assignment for Wednesday is to complete the Chapter Map for Chapters 2 & 3. The assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Frindle” tab.  The audio version for each chapter is in a channel on the Teams page should the students need. 

Thursday – Thursday 2 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet.  Students will complete the chapters 1 – 3 pages, which can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Frindle” tab.  This assignment will be explained during class so students know what to do.  The audio version for each chapter is in a channel on the Teams page should the students need. 

Friday – NO SCHOOL – Teacher Workday.  Students are not expected to work. 

Week of August 24th

Week 1 - RACES & Traits of Good Readers  

*Please note that these assignments have not yet been ‘pushed’ to students on Teams.  They will be pushed as needed so they are easier to find each day.  Students will receive explicit instruction on how to access these documents and all of these lessons will be recorded should any students have trouble finding them once our Zoom meetings end*

Monday 1 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet. This should be completed before Literacy class at 9:30am. We will review these answers as a class. We will read a story together during our class time and understand how to write a RACES response.  Their assignment after this class will be to write a RACES response.  The assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Class Work” tab.   

Tuesday – Tuesday 1 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet.  Students will watch the next story from Storyline Online.  The link to this story will be in the Language Arts Teams page.  Their assignment after reading this story will be to write a RACES response.  The assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Class Work” tab.   

Wednesday - Direct instruction via Zoom, 9:30 -10:00 a.m. Zoom

Wednesday 1 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet. We will review the answers from Tuesday & Wednesday, as well as share out our RACES responses from Tuesday.  For our lesson, we will discuss and create a list about traits of good readers.  We will then focus on the reading skill “Asking Questions”.  The assignment for when they are done is to do a RACES response about the importance of Depth of Knowledge questions.  This assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Class Work” tab.   

Thursday – Thursday 1 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet.  Students will read and answer the questions for a reading passage entitled “The Missing Money.  They will also come up with their own 3 questions to ask the class.   They will provide answers to these questions as well. This assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Class Work” tab.   

Friday – Friday 1 Warm-Up from packet (Daily Language Review).  Students have a hard copy of this packet.  Students will read and answer the questions for a reading passage entitled “Lincoln's Choice”.  They will also come up with their own 3 questions to ask the class.   They will provide answers to these questions as well. This assignment can be found in “Class Notebook” in Teams under the “Class Work” tab.
