Week 6Basket Weavers and Cliff Dwellers  (3 day week)

Objective: Students study the early people and dwellings of Colorado. 

Monday  Vocabulary & Articles 

Students should review & write down the vocabulary words & definitions for the week.  Afterwards, students will create a Frayer Model for each vocabulary word.  The Frayer Model has been explained & students will have an example to view.  The PDF of these words has been posted into Teams.  Please go to Social Studies, then click on the “Vocabulary” Channel on the left-hand side.  Next, click files at the top.  There is a PDF entitled “SS Vocab. Week 6”.  Students should write these definitions in their notebook, then complete the Frayer Model.  There is also a PDF entitled “Vocabulary Frayer Model” to which students may refer.

We will discuss the First Coloradans and learn more about their daily lives.  We will take a virtual field trip to the Mesa Verde area and discover more about the American Indian tribes that live in Colorado today   We will read and discuss the following articles together:

We will review the articles & answers from the previous day to ensure understanding and allow students to ask questions.  We will prepare for the Week 3 quiz by reviewing the key ideas from the weekly articles.  Their assignment is to complete any articles that have not been completed in class.  I will be giving students the names of these articles and posting the information on Teams on Thursday.  Students should also complete the electronic crossword puzzle.  They will be shown exactly how to access this during class.

Week 2: Regions of Colorado

Objective - Students identify the characteristics of Colorado’s four main physiographic regions.

Monday - Vocabulary – Students will review the 4 weekly vocabulary words.  The PDF of these words has been posted into Teams.  Please go to Social Studies, then click on the “Vocabulary” Channel on the left-hand side.  Next, click files at the top.  There is a PDF entitled “SS Vocab. Week 2.  Students should write these definitions in their notebook, then complete the Frayer Model.  We completed a Frayer Model last week, so students know what this looks like.  There is also a PDF entitled “Vocabulary Frayer Model” to which students may refer. 

Tuesday – Introduction and Articles – We will discuss what regions are and how they shape a state or country.  We will identify and discuss the regions within Colorado and what makes them different.  We will read & discuss the following articles together:

  3. C) Colorado Regions

Students will need to answer all questions at the bottom of each article.  There are always 3 questions.  Their assignment afterwards is to read and answer questions for the following articles:

Wednesday Articles – Students will complete the remaining articles for Week 2.  They are titled:

Thursday – Articles & Review – We will review the articles & answers from the previous day to ensure understanding and allow students to ask questions.  We will prepare for the Week 2 quiz by reviewing the regions of Colorado.  There assignment is to complete the Week 2 Quiz on Studies Weekly.  Students are permitted to go back to the articles to reread in case they have forgotten something!
