Algebra I

Course Description

So far, you have a great deal of experience with the basic concepts of arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In Algebra, you will begin to take those tools and apply them the world at large. Much of what we do in society runs on data and systems. With Algebra 1, numbers are no longer static. You will learn to handle functions and formulae where numbers move and change. You will create and change graphs in order to follow the ever-evolving data of the world. In this class, you will take everything you know about math, pull it out of the toolbox, and put it to work.

A few of the things we will learn this year: solving and graphing linear functions; solving systems of equations (where linear functions intersect); how to represent and interpret data in different forms; properties of exponents and how to work with polynomials; practice with real-world scientific notation; and, if time, we will begin work with parabolas and quadratics.
