3/4 Music Week of 5/25/20

Hi Music class!

I hope you've been able to learn a few songs on the recorder these last couple of weeks.

For these last few days of school, I'd like to give you the option of sending in a video or audio of yourself playing recorder (or any instrument) or singing a song or two.  This is optional, but many students have sent in their songs.

Don't forget, if you own a ukulele, a guitar, a piano, or a bass guitar, I have posted links to get you started on the basics of those instruments.

Make sure to check out the first 4 belts of recorder karate!

I made videos of the first 4 and uploaded files containing the sheet music and some pointers.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have!

I am also uploading the full "Recorder Karate" book for you to move at your own pace.

3-4 Music Week of 5/4/20

Hi Mr. Hepner's class!

During this time of staying inside, it is important to keep your mental health in check.  I would suggest using music as a way to have fun and enjoy yourself.

Here is a link to fun and interactive music games.  You can compose your own music, sharpen your rhythmic skills, and play music-related games.

If you don't already own one, I would recommend getting a recorder. Since we're not able to play recorder together, having one of your own allows you to play any time, anywhere! This is NOT required, but they are cheap and can be ordered online.  I will be posting the music to all the belts (18 total) for Recorder Karate along with videos of myself playing them all. You can try playing along with me to see how many belts you can do!

Here are links to cheap recorders: ~$5-10

Any brand will work fine.

You or your parents can email me any time with questions and I will be updating this page every week. Subscribe so you'll get notified when I post.

If you would like to ask a question/have a meeting with me, email me for the link and password.

My office hours on Zoom are:
Monday 8AM-9AM
Friday 8AM-9AM

3/4 Music Week of 4/27/20

Hello music class!
This is your last week in music before you go to art.  If you would like to send in a video (audio only works too) of you playing an instrument or singing your favorite song, I would love to hear it! It can be your recorder songs or you singing or any other instrument you can play.

Send it to [email protected] and let me know if you'd also like it posted to the school's website to show our community.

3/4 Music Week of 4/20/20

Hey everyone!
I hope you all have been able to get a recorder by now.  If not, there are other activities for you at the end of this post.

You will find all of the belts for the first level here:

Here you will find some excellent lessons on how to read music:
You can read/click through the lessons.

If you have access to any of these instruments, please take the time to learn some of the basic techniques.

I will be posting more videos of myself playing through the next 5 belts this week.

It's Raining

- New note: E
- New rhythm: eighth notes or "ti-ti"
- Listen to how the eighth notes are faster, being played evenly in 1 beat
- Notice how the rhythms match the words if you sing it?
