3/4 Music Week of 12/2/19

This week, students will continue their individual goals with Recorder Karate, and the class will be focusing on playing eighth notes in rhythm, the new note, "E", and playing Merrily We Roll Along and It's Raining.

3/4 Music Week of 11/18/19

This week, students will begin Recorder Karate.  
 
As a class, we will learn new concepts such as "breath marks", the three notes "b, a, and g", and recognizing patterns in the melody and rhythms.  
 
They will test for belts all week, working at their own pace.

3/4 Music week of 11/4/19

This is the last week students can test for recorder karate belts! 
 
They will be working hard to earn the belts at their skill level. 

3/4 Music Week of 10/28/19

This week, students will continue testing for Recorder Karate belts.
 
As a class, we will work on belts 3 and 4 while individual students work at their own pace.
 
Belts 3 and 4 require faster finger movements and correlation between articulation with the tongue and changing notes with the fingers.

3/4 Music Week of 10/21/19

Students will continue Recorder Karate this week, learning about 8th notes, quarter rests, and applying them to Rhythm Basketball. 

As a class, we will be playing Gently Sleep (belt 2) and learning about breath marks and patterns in music. 

3/4 Music Week of 10/14/19

This week, students will be assigned a recorder and learn how to hold and play the recorder.
 
They will also begin the first belt as a class, starting testing on Friday.

3/4 Music Week of 9/16/19

This week, students will test 4 of the 5 days for recorder karate. They are only required to test a minimum of 1 time this week, but will have opportunities on multiple days. 
 
They will be working at their own pace, learning increasingly difficult rhythms and melodies. 

3/4 Music week of 9/9/19

Students will be learning increasingly difficult songs while they practice and test for Recorder Karate.
 
New notes include: G, A, B, and E. 
 
New rhythms include eighth notes and quarter rests.
 
Some students are on track to learn dotted and ties notes this week. 

3/4 Music Week of 9/3/19

This week students will be going over the recorder basics:
1. How to hold
2. How to make a sound
3. 1st three notes (B, A, and G)
 
They will be assigned a recorder which stays at school and they will begin Recorder Karate.
 
They will increasingly difficult songs, earning a "belt" for each new song they complete.  There are 9 belts up to the black belt and then there are 9 degrees of black belts.

Music 3/4 Week of 8/26/19

This week students will have their last chance to earn their belts during the first round of Recorder Karate.
 
They will be taking a quiz over 3 notes on the recorder: B, A, and G, and it will also include a few questions about half notes, quarter notes, and rests.

Music 3/4 Week of 8/19/19

Students will continue Recorder Karate this week, with most students still on the first two belts.
 
We will begin belts 3 and 4 as a class, which have slightly more difficult rhythms.  They will also learn a new note, "E".
 
They will keep playing Rhythm Basketball to strengthen their recognition of patterns.

Music 3/4 Week of 8/12/19

This week, students will continue Recorder Karate and Rhythm Basketball.
 
They will be reading rhythms and notes in order to play songs and earn "belts".
 
Students will also play Rhythm Basketball in order to strengthen their reading skills.
