4th Grade Science- Week of 9/9/19- 9/13/19

This week...
We will be wrapping up our first science unit on Energy. Students will be learning the remaining vocabulary words and concepts. These include the different forms of kinetic energy, the different forms of potential energy, and the law of conservation of matter.

Next week...
End of unit assessment (Date TBD)

Home Connections
A. Tell your family members what the different forms of kinetic and potential energy are. Provide examples for each form.
Answers: Kinetic Energy- Mechanical Energy, Electrical Energy, Thermal Energy (heat), Radiant Energy (light), Sound Energy
Potential Energy- Gravitational Energy, Nuclear Energy, Chemical Energy, Elastic Energy
B. Play the Energy Jeopardy game at home
C. Study for next week's end of unit test (pre-assessments will be coming home in Friday folders. HINT- these may help you study!)

4th Grade Science- Week of 9/2/19- 9/6/19

Students will explore gravitational energy this week with homemade roller coasters. Grades for this week will collected from the Q & A sheets provided during the experiments.

Science Class 8/29/19

Learning target:
Today I will begin exploring kinetic energy, potential energy, and height by working on the mystery science lesson: What Makes Roller Coasters Go So Fast?

4th Grade Science- Week of 8/26/19-8/30/19

Students will be continuing learning about energy. We will be discussing the following academic terms:
- kinetic energy
-potential energy
-stored energy
- total mechanical energy
- conservation of energy
- energy transfer
- contact force
- non-contact force
Assignments that will be graded this week are the daily exit slips to check daily understanding and the week's pages in their science packet. Students will also have a participation grade for taking notes during class.

4th Grade Science- Week of 8/19/19 - 8/23/19

We will be beginning our first unit of they year this week, ENERGY! This week, students will explore the definition of energy, stored energy, and the connection between height, energy, and motion by completing some engineering projects. I will post last years end of unit Jeopardy game so that students can practice the science concepts at home if they desire.

4th Grade Science- 8/12/19 to 8/17/19

PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PAGE if your student is in 4th grade science!

We begin switching for science and social studies classes this week. Science A runs from 12:40 - 1:30 and Science B runs from 2:35 to 3:15. Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any questions or concerns regarding the science class.

This week, the primary goal is to get to know each other. We will also be investigating how to think like a scientist.
