4th Grade Science- Week of 11/18/19

We finished our Functions and Structures unit last week! As it was the final week, there were many assignments due (5 to be exact). Students were informed today if they were missing an assignment. Grades will be updated for parents regarding this tonight. If your child is missing an assignment, please see if they can locate it before having them complete a new one. All students worked hard in the centers and I'd hate for them to redo the papers.
Above this blurb, I will be posting each assignment in case it needs reprinted at home.

We are starting our "History of Earth" unit. Students will be learning about the structure of the Earth (crust, mantle, inner core, and outer core). They will also be learning about rock layers this week. We will end the week with a fun science experiment.

4th Grade Science- Week of 11/5/19

This week, students will be learning about the structures and functions of animals and of plants. We will also be discussing how information is processed by creatures. On Thursday, we will begin experiment centers in which students can explore what we have been learning. An end of unit assignment will be coming home in which students may need assistance. Information will be coming in Friday Folders.

4th Grade Science- Week of October 28, 2019

This week has been a crazy week. Students had a substitute and worksheet to complete on Monday. This was marked in the grade book as a participation grade only. We will not have science on Thursday or Friday due to Halloween and the schedule change for Service Learning Groups.

4th Grade Science- Week of October 21-28

This week, students will finish up the Wave Unit and begin the unit on Structures and Functions. A pre-test will be on Tuesday for the Structures and Function unit. Post test on the Wave Unit will be on Friday. Please make sure to use quizlet.com and the Mystery Science lessons (4th Grade: Waves of Sound).

4th Grade Science- October 14-18

Learning Targets
Students will learn what waves are and what they are caused by.
Students will learn the scientific vocabulary for waves: crest, trough, wavelength, amplitude, frequency, transverse waves, longitudinal waves, refraction, reflection, absorption, binary, Morse code, prism, disturbance.

This week...
Students will complete a mini-unit on waves and lights. They will be watching some Mystery Science videos and completing some experiments.

Home Connections
A. Practice the new vocabulary words at home.

Ms. Tomlin has become Mrs. Maslen

Over the break, I was married and am excited to share with the students my new name : Mrs. Maslen.

4th Grade Science- Week og 9/23/19-9/25/19

Last week students were asked to create a diagram in which they demonstrated their knowledge on the forms of energy. This week, we will be working on the scientific vocabulary (we call this language of the discipline) students have learned during this unit lesson.
Vocabulary words students should know are: energy, kinetic energy, potential energy, total mechanical energy, conservation of energy, energy transfer, collision, speed, radiant energy, mechanical energy, sound energy, electric energy, gravitational potential energy, elastic energy,  chemical energy, nuclear energy thermal energy, contact force, non-contact force
