Ms. Calder, Math, 6th Grade

Posts

May 22 - 26

I have enjoying working with your child in Math class so much this year!

Although it was a lot of work, I tried to meet the students with what Math skills that they needed to learn.  Thank you for sharing your amazing children with me!

Next week we are going to continue to move forward and get some more Math skills in before our last day.

The students will also be taking the 6th grade Post Assessment to compare to the Pre-Assessment taken at the beginning of the year!

We will finish on Wednesday by doing a reflection of the year and setting goals for the next school year!

May 15-19

This week the students will work at their pace on either Chapter 7, 8 or 9.
Chapter 7 - Geometry
Chapter 8 - Integers, Coordinate Planes, and Inequalities
Chapter 9 - Statistics, Mean, Median, Mode and Range

May 8-11

We will continue cruising through Chapter 7 and Chapter 8 depending on what skills each student needs.

Chapter 7 - we are about halfway through the Chapter focusing on Surface Area and Volume of three-dimensional shapes.

Chapter 8 - the focus has been on integers and coordinate planes.  The students have great knowledge already so we will be finishing this chapter this week and be moving on to Chapter 9, Statistics and Probablity.

May 1-5

All the Math groups have moved to the next Chapter.

Chapter 7 group we are focusing on Area and Surface Area of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes.  The key is knowing what formulas to use when.

Chapter 8 group: After taking the Chapter 8 Pretest, the students showed that they have great knowledge of integers and number lines so most of the students are moving right into the Quadrant Planes.

April 24-29

Chapter 6/7 group
We are finished with Chapter 6, and we will start by taking the Chapter 7 Pretest.  Chapter 7 is Area, Surface Area, and Volume of 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional shapes.

Chapter 7/8 group
We will review Chapter 7 Geometry and take the Post Assessment. Then move into Chapter 8 which is Integers, Number Line, and the Coordinate Plane.

April 17-21

This week in Math
Chapter 6 group will finish up Equations, review and then complete the Assessment to show their knowledge.

Chapter 7 group we will be working on 3 dimensional shapes, learn the formulas and practice surface area for prisms and pyramids, and finally learn how to find the volume of rectangular prisms.

April 10 - 14

For Math this week we will continue to work on the Chapter 6 and 7 skills.

Chapter 6 group will put into practice the skills that they learned in Chapter 5 to start solving Algebraic Equations.

Chapter 7 group will learn the formulas for find the area, surface area and volume.

April 3 - 7

Chapter 6 students will apply their knowledge from Chapter 5 to begin solving Algebraic Equations.

Chapter 7 students will learn Area, Surface Area and Volume.

Tuesday through Thursday our schedule will be interrupting with CMAS testing so there will not be Math class on those days.

Mar. 27-31

I hope that you all had a fantastic Spring Break!

In Math this week the following groups will be working on -

Chapter 5 group will be wrapping up their knowledge about equations.  We will be doing a review and then the students will show their knowledge of learning by completing the Chapter 5 Assessment.  Next the students will take the Chapter 6 Pretest which is putting into practice their learning of Chapter 5 by learning to solve Algebraic Equations.

Chapter 6 group will be finishing the chapter on Algebraic Equations and showing their knowledge of their skills.  We will move into Chapter 7 skills will be area, surface area and volume.

Mar. 6-8

Chapter 5 students are on lesson 5.2 and I hope to finish going over the rest of Chapter 5 before Spring Break.

Chapter 6 students are on 6.3 and will also finish going over the Chapter 6 math skills.

After Spring Break, we will review these skills and keep moving forward.

Feb. 27 - Mar. 3

The students that were working on Chapter 4 have completed this Chapter and we will be moving on to Chapter 5.  Chapter 5 is working on the fundamentals of Algebraic Expressions and learning the vocabulary, terms, coefficient and constant.  They will also focus on the Associative Property and Communicative Property.

Chapter 5 students also finished the material and will be moving to Chapter 6 which is working on equations.  All of the math concepts from Chapter 5 will now be applied and used to begin solving for the variable.

Feb. 21-24

Chapter 4 group is at the end of the Chapter and will work on the Practice Test to make sure that they have learned the skills.  They will then take the Posttest for Chapter 4 and then move on to Chapter 5 which is Algebraic Expressions.

Chapter 5 group will be finishing the review on Tuesday and then take the Chapter 5 Posttest, Algebraic Expressions. Then move on to Chapter 6 which is Equations.

Feb. 13-16

Chapter 4 we will finish the chapter about rates and ratios.
Chapter 5 we will finish this week with Algebraic Expressions.

Both math groups will be moving forward with the next chapter.

Feb. 6-10

For the week we continue working through the following based on what Chapter the student is currently in.

Chapter 4 is working on Percents, fractions and decimals.

Chapter 5 is working getting the foundations of algebraic expressions so that the learning of algebra can continue to build, solving for variables.

Jan. 30 - Feb. 1

Students working in Chapter 3 will review the math concepts of rates and raitos and complete the test this week.  Then move into Chapter 4 which is Percents and Decimals.

Students working in Chapter 4 will finish this chapter up on Percents and Decimals and then move into Chapter 5 which is Algebraic Expressions and Properties.
