This week, students will be writing reviews of their book club books.  They will develop a list of pros and cons with their book club, and write their own reviews citing examples of the text. 

Week of 5/14-5/18

This week, we will work in book clubs to find vocabulary words as well as start a flow map about plot.  Students will choose the most important plot events from their books to create a timeline.  They will work in groups to choose these events, but their flow maps will be individual.  

Week of 5/7-5/11

This week, students will be finding details and text evidence in their book club books to determine character traits of the main character(s) in the story.  They will make a "map" of these as part of their project.  We will be working on each piece of the project at a time. 

Week of 4/30-5/4

This week, we will continue to read in our book clubs.  We will work on figurative language.  Students will identify similes, metaphors, hyperbole, & personification.  Students will be compiling annotations to discuss in their book clubs as well as a small project based off of the figurative language they find in the books/their own writing.

Week of 4/23-4/26

This week, we will continue to read in our book clubs.  We will work on the reading strategies of making connections and visualization.  Students will be compiling annotations to discuss in their book clubs.

Week of 4/16-4/20

This week, we will continue to read in our book clubs.  We will work on the reading strategies of making connections and visualization.  Please keep in mind that we will only have literacy on Thursday and Friday due to CMAS testing.  

Week of 4/9-4/13

Due to testing, we will only be having language arts on Friday.  We will be working on annotating our book club books.

Week of 3/19-3/23

We will not be meeting with Language Arts or Math classes this week, as we will be doing CMAS testing in the mornings Monday - Wednesday!

Week of 3/12-3/16

This week, we will be starting book clubs.  Students will have 4 books to choose from.  During each class, they will be responsible determining certain aspects of the book, such as setting, plot events, predictions, & connections.  They will meet with their book clubs to discuss their findings and talk about where the book is headed.  We will also be reviewing some CMAS test-taking skills.

Week of 3/5-3/9

This week, students will finish up their posters.  We will then do gallery walks & presentations.  Students will read other students' work, respond to it, and give their own opinions on the various topics.  We will also be doing some CMAS practicing from now until Spring Break. In addition, we will continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading.

Week of 2/26-3/2

This week, we will be publishing our persuasive essays.  Students will learn to properly format their writing for an audience.  We will also begin planning and designing posters by adding a persuasive slogan, using captions, and writing synopses.  We will also continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading.

Week of 2/20-2/23

This week, we will be revising and editing our persuasive essays.  Students will be peer revising and editing after they are done with their own.  You can check your child's writing progress in OneNote.  We will also continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading.

Week of 2/12-2/16

This week, we will continue writing our persuasive essays.  We are finishing out rough drafts and will begin revising this week.  We will focus on word choice & sentence structure. We will also continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading

Week of 2/5 - 2/9

This week, we will continue writing our persuasive writing unit.  We will be drafting our body paragraphs each day and learning about proper structure/organization.  We will also continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading

Week of 1/29 to 2/2

This week, we will begin a persuasive writing unit.  Students will choose a topic based on interest to write about.  It must be a topic that can be researched.  We will begin researching and drafting this week.  We will also continue practicing our annotation strategies through individual and group reading.
