Posts

January 22-26

Students will continue to use arrays to understand area. They will also learn how to use length x width to determine the area of regular polygons. We will incorporate distributive property with finding area.

January 17-19

This week in math we are taking a four question distributive property test to make sure we can move on from the unit. Then, we will be moving into relating area to multiplication. In this unit, we will be using area models and arrays.

On Friday, we will have our very first Multiplication Race! If you would like to participate, please let me know by Thursday at 3:00pm.

January 8-12

This week we will be learning about the commutative property, associative property, and distributive property of multiplication. Then, we will move on to learning abour area!

Please start talking to your students about area and perimeter at home. It really helps them grasp the concept better.

December 11-13

Students are putting their multiplicaiton and division skills to the test! They have to plan a Winter Wonderland Party for the class. Students will learn about counting money, budgeting, and more!

December 4-8

Students will learn about distributive property and multiplication. Continue to work on multiplication memorization. You can begin to work on division memorization as well. Reminder, students will be MAPS testing on Thursday and Friday.

November 27-December 1

This week we are working on memorizing the multiples of 4, 5, and 6. We will get to 7s if we have time. We will continue to work on filling out our multiplicaiton table and identifying patterns within it.

Students will also bring home their prize they got from MobyMax! Please have them keep it at home.

Novemeber 13-17

This week we are continuing to look at patterns in multiplicaiton! We will start to incorporate use of the mutliplication table and skip counting. We will also be working with fact families. At home, I recommend practicing filling out multiplication tables, skip counted, repeat addition, and other multiplication methods to help with memorization.

Novemeber 6-9

We are finishing our unit on estimation and rounding. Students will transition back into multiplication. We willl be focusing on recognizing patterns in multiplication using a multiplication table and other skills.

October 3-November 3

This week we are moving onto rounding with addition (to the nearest hundreds place), expanded form addition (up to the hundreds place), and estimation (and addition). This will be the last week on this topic.

October 23-27

This week students are learning about expanded form and how to add using it. We will then connect it back to rounding and how to use rounding with expanded form.

You can continue working on MobyMax!

October 16-20

This week we are working on what rounding and estimation are and how we use them in our everyday lives.

September 24-29

We are finishing up our unit on division! Then, we will move into our next unit. This an introduction to rounding and estimation. We will go over rounding rules, rounding to the nearest 10s, 100s, and 1,000s, when to round/why we round, and how to estimate. Please make sure to practice over break.

September 18-22

We are finishing up our unit on division with a small project. Students are making sure they understand a few different methods to solve division problems. We are also connecting our knowledge of mutiplication to our knoweldge of division to make us stronger mathematicians.
