Due to the short week we will be having, students will explore books that are not in our curriculum. We hope these books will bring a lot of joy and a love for reading.
For phonemic awareness, students will continue to work on blending CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words and will review the letters ‘Zz,’ ‘Ss,’ ‘Jj,’ ‘Ff,’ and short ‘Uu’. In addition to this, they will work on the following sight words: from, one, and are.

We will be introducing unit 7! Time is going by so quickly! In unit 7, students explore what living things, mostly plants, need to survive and grow. In addition to this, they will learn how these living things get what they need to survive from their environment.
For phonemic awareness, students will continue to work on blending CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words and will work with the letters ‘Kk’ and ‘Ww’. We will dive deeper into what are digraphs (a combination of 2 letters that make 1 sound - example: ‘sh’).
Lastly, students received their February sight word list last Friday. This week, we will work on: your, words, their, and how.
Literacy Week of January 22nd
Literacy Week of January 17th
We will be starting a brand new unit this week! In unit 6, we explore what is culture and examine the traditions and customs of people all around the world! To support our understanding, we will be making a craft of the traditions presented in our texts. We will also learn the sounds of ‘Jj’ and ‘Ff’. Please continue practicing sight words at home. We will be introducing the following sight words from January: little, by, and then.
January sight words will be sent this week in their Friday Folders.
This Friday, we will be having a Chex-Mix reading party. Each student will bring a dry food snack (ex: chips, cheerios, cheetos) and we will mix them all up! Each student will get a little cup of our class Chex-Mix and have time to read! Feel free to have them bring in their favorite books. I'd love to read them out loud to the class.
Please have your student bring in a dry food snack on Friday, January 19th. If you would not like your student to participate, please provide them with a snack from home.
