"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled. "
I am David Rowan and I teach Math, Language Arts and 8 grade Social Studies in the 7/8 grade POD. In addition, I am the Team Leader for grades 7-8. It gives my great joy to have found my passion in my work and I feel grateful to work in such a fun, gifted and professional community. When I think about my teaching style, I would consider myself more of a "guide on the side" than a "sage on the stage." In an ever-evolving world that requires people to be flexible, creative problem-solvers who can wade through a sea of facts and opinions and find their way to the truth, students need the freedom and perseverance to try, fail, try again and find success. I continue to be energized and excited in the quest to light fires in both my and my student's lives.
Before joining Westgate in 2010, I worked in the restaurant business for 17 years. While rewarding, two life events led to my reevaluate my life and it was then I decided to change careers and become a teacher. Looking back, this was one of the best decisions of my life. In 1992, I earned my B.A. in Psychology from Central College and completed my Teacher Certification Program from the University of Colorado at Denver in 2009.
In my free time, I love spending time with my wife, Erin and daughter, Harper. I also love to travel, ride my bike, snowboard, play guitar and attend live music concerts.
