Absence

Good Morning,

I will be out Thursday and Friday this week (5/11-5/12) and there will be a sub in my room. I will be letting students know today and tomorrow so that they are aware and not caught off guard.

Kind Regards,
Ms. H

Q4, Week 7

Good Morning!

It is officially week 7! We are getting closer to final grades and summer fun. Please check in with your students about all of their grades and reach out to teachers if needed. All makeup assignments for me are due on May 16th. I will not be accepting makeup work after that day.

7/8 - Intro to Photography - Students will learn about photography and its history dating back to the 5th century. Students will have the chance to look at/examine my personal camera collection and see how photographs were taken before the invention of the digital camera or cell phones. Students will also be creating their own photograms using a process known as a cyanotype. A cyanotype is a photograph made using a light-sensitive chemical and UV sun rays. They will create a story within their photograms using found objects from their house, my supply, or nature.

5/6 - Clay - Students will be starting their clay projects this week. Students will get a block of clay, and use the pinch pot building method to create a Japanese rice bowl. These bowls will be able to be used once they are glazed but they cannot go in the microwave or dishwasher.

3/4 - Clay - Students will be starting their clay project this week. Through their clay project, students will be focusing on repetition and symmetry through the creation of their own Tic-Tac-Toe boards. Students will choose a theme and create a tic-tac-toe board as well as 2 sets of 5 playing pieces that tie into their theme.

1/2 - Clay - Students will be starting to work in 3D forms this week by using clay to create. Students will follow along while I walk through how to create a pout-pout fish using a pinch pot base. Once their pinch pot is created they will have the chance to use the score/slip method to add eyes and fins to their fish to help it swim.

Kindergarten - Clay - Students will be continuing to work on 3D forms this week, but instead of using paper we will be using clay. To start out we will play around with play dough and the students will demonstrate that they can create a ball, a snake, and a pancake. These are the 3 most used forms while using clay. We will then move on to create slab-built cat faces. These will use a rolling pin to flatten their clay to cut out the shape of a cat's head. Once there, we will use the score/slip method to attach eyes, a nose, a mouth, and whiskers to our cats face before it is ready to dry and go into the kiln.

If you have any questions, please reach out.

Good Morning,

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break!!

Quarter 4 is upon us, can you believe it? We are almost done with this school year! As we head into this final quarter, I have a few reminders coming from my class.
            1) Please try to go see the District Art Show at some point. The Secondary Show (6-12 grade) is up now but will be taken down tomorrow afternoon. The Elementary Show will be going up Wednesday afternoon and will be up until April 25th. So go enjoy the art from all of the talented students in our district!
           2) Friendly reminder that I keep all student artwork until the end of the school year because of the art show. If you are curious about what your student has been creating in class, please take a look at my edlio, and Instagram, or feel free to reach out to me.

If you have any questions please contact me, I hope you all have a great first week back!

Art Show

The 2022-2023 District Art Show is coming up fast. Please make sure you have submitted the Student Participation Permission form so I can curate the accepted works (https://acrobat.adobe.com/link/review?uri=urn:aaid:scds:US:b5b7b813-bcae-3b7c-9300-d1472575a423). The Anonymous Jurry made up of Westgate Teachers and Staff compiled our accepted artworks from this year on Friday and I am so excited by the outcome! We truly do have some exemplary student artists and I am so thankful we have the Adams 12 District Art Show to show off their talent.

I will be sending out emails this week if your student's artwork was accepted into the show. Please keep an eye out for an email from me. If your student's artwork was not accepted, know that there were only 30 works accepted for each show (K-5 and 6-8) and it was a tough call for our jurors this year, but you can still go support Westgate and our accepted artists at Front Range Community College this spring. Details of the show dates will be in an upcoming newsletter.
