Week 34: Science Wrap-up

Week 33: Earth/Space Science Solar System Walk Project Week 3 

Objective – Students will create a scale model of the Solar System that is one 10-billionth its actual size to investigate the relative sizes of the Sun and planets, and the distances between them.  We will create a Solar System Walk here on the School Campus which will include details about the celestial bodies for the entire community to learn. 

Monday- Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 24th – Finalize the Title Slide of each Presentation for printing and lamination.  Each slide will contain the basic information for each Celestial Body, to be placed to scale along the pathways here on Campus for the entire Westgate Community to walk and to learn.  Work on the Scale for the Solar System Walk. Finalize all Title slides to be printed. 

Tuesday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 25th – Map out the scale model Today (outside weather permitting) and prepare the plaques for instillation along the pathway here on campus. Check any last minute details and walk the path as a final check 

Wednesday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 26th – Assemble the plaque slide and with the assistance of Mrs. Valenza, install the plaque along the mapped out path.  The path will be done to scale as closely as our space permits.  We will wind our way through the new community space. 

Thursday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 27th- Walk the Walk - We will walk the Solar system Project Weather permitting.

Science Class May 17th-21st

Week 32: Earth/Space Science Solar System Walk Project Week 2 

Objective – Students will create a scale model of the Solar System that is one 10-billionth its actual size to investigate the relative sizes of the Sun and planets, and the distances between them.  We will create a Solar System Walk here on the School Campus which will include details about the celestial bodies for the entire community to learn. 

Monday- Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 17th – Today we will begin the process of Compiling all of our research into a single Slide Presentation for each celestial body. Each student will need to build their slide within their Group Presentation and have it ready for printing and presentation. 

Tuesday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 18th – Today we will complete the Group Slide presentation and include a selected music track to enhance their slide presentation.  The Group presentation will need to be finalized so that our video production can begin.  

Wednesday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 19th – Today we will begin the video production portion of the project and add a QR code to the Title slide of each presentation, which will be printed out and placed along the path in the community area here on Campus. 

Thursday – Zoom Starts at 2:30

May 10th - Introduce the Project & Assign Planet Groups (Start group word Documents)  Students will have a choice of Celestial Body to research along with several others and together the will compile their data for a Slide Presentation.

May 11th - Individual Research and add information to shared Word Document. Students will need to cite their sources using the fact catchers we have used during the past.    

Wednesday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 12th - Continue Research (Include distance from the Sun and other basic details that will be given to them)  Students should find three facts that interest them and record them on their shared document. 

Thursday – Zoom Starts at 2:30 

May 13th- Research complete Finalize Team Document. Wrap up the Research and make sure that all of their data is shared on their Team Document.

Complete Final work on the Team Document to be ready to start on the Slide Presentation on Monday

Objective – Students will be researching the weather of a city in Colorado.  They will collect the weather data ( Temperature, Precipitation etc. ) and then create a graph using Microsoft Excel to publish their findings.

We will begin today with an introduction to graphs and practice creating graphs using given weather data. 

Tuesday - Online Students should be on Zoom by 2:35 

Students will select a city in Colorado to research and then collect data for the Excel graph and begin their graph.

Students will finalize their graph and write about their chosen cities weather.  Their purpose is to inform and then persuade their readers about whether or not they would choose to live in this city based on the weather patterns there.
