Senior Advocacy

Course Description

The high school advocate is the first contact for parents about student communications coming from and going to school. During advocacy time at school, we begin each morning with a circle to greet each other and start our school day. In distance learning, seniors are welcome to join advocacy each morning and highly encouraged to join the Senior seminar live on Fridays.

Advocates help students with social and emotional support and college and career readiness.

Friday September 18th

Westgate is holding our second round of in-person learning. Similar to the orientation week, students will have the chance to come in for one day or morning in order to meet with their teachers for a day. As with orientation week, we will be following all state and district guidelines regarding safety around COVID-19.
Your students will attend Friday, September 18th from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM.

The seniors' schedule will consist of: Advocacy, SAT Pre-Administration, and Senior Seminar.

Seniors will be completing the SAT pre-administration. During this time, Seniors will begin filling out their answer sheets with their information as well as information related to sending their scores to universities. We highly encourage your student to attend this in-person day on September 18th so they are fully prepared to take the SAT on the 23rd. If they are absolutely unable to attend school in-person on September 18th, please contact me so that we can schedule another time to complete the pre-administration.

Some important things to note:

1) Students need a filled water bottle for orientation day. Microwaves and water fountains will not be available for use, and students cannot leave campus for lunch.

2) As per state mandate, we will be enforcing masks and social distancing. If students do not wear masks or if they choose to take off their masks, they will not be allowed to stay.

What your student should bring:

  • Facemask
  • Computer
  • Pens/Pencils
  • Water bottle

Orientation Schedule

Happy Friday everyone, and welcome back for another wonderful year at Westgate! We hope you are as excited for the beginning of the quarter as we are. Here is everything you need to know about orientation next week:

Reminders (please read):

Students must wear masks. We will be following all district and state guidelines regarding COVID-19 safety. We will have disposable masks at the door if needed.

Arrival procedure: Your student should follow the Adams12 health screening at home before coming to school. If they do not, they will have their temperature checked before entering the building. When they arrive at school, they should find a high school teacher (we will have a sign) and wait with that teacher before being given permission to enter.

Most classes/activities will take place in small groups. Your students will be assigned to these groups upon arrival and remain with them for the duration of the day.

Your student should bring a cold lunch that does not need to be microwaved. To keep within state and district COVID-19 safety measures, we have removed all microwaves.

Students cannot leave campus for lunch.

Students should bring water bottles. The bottle-refilling feature on the water fountains is still functional, but the fountain part is not.

If your student has a personal computer, they may bring it to work on assignments and activities during the day. Otherwise, they will use a school computer for the day.

Students will be given supplies and, if needed, a computer to be taken home for the quarter.

IMPORTANT: If you need a computer and/or supplies, but your student will not be attending orientation, you may pick up both at the school on Friday, August 21st between 9:00 AM and Noon.

Week Schedule: Your student will ONLY come to school on the day their class is listed:

Thursday 20thSeniors, 8:00 – 11:30 (academic material will occur during this time. If they would like to remain for social-emotional activities, they may let us know that they wish to stay until 3:30)
