*Check your email for more information.

Carline:

Morning Drop-Off

To maintain COVID safety protocols and cohort integrity during carline, there will not be any parking and parent escorted walk-up.  Non-students are to remain in the vehicle.  Also, we ask that families conduct the health check at home.  If it is not, we will conduct it at school during drop-off but this will significantly slow carline for all families.

Afternoon Pick-Up

We will be utilizing a system that uses a unique number, printed on a car tag, for each family.  The car tag will be displayed from inside the car and visible to staff during pick-up.  Carline staff will communicate to the classrooms. Sibling classrooms will be notified at the same time.   This provides a streamlined and contactless pick-up procedure that allows us to prevent cohort mixing and ensure COVID health and safety standards.  As with morning drop-off, no parking is permitted during carline.

The  Parent Carline Norms and Procedures.docx contains a map along with a list of frequently asked questions addressing such things as carpool, what happens if you forget your tag and more.

Digital Social Gatherings are Happening!!

Westgate knows that many of our students enjoy socializing and simply having the opportunity to be together... even virtually! Beginning next Friday, September 4th, Katie Goforth and Julie Ruhl will be hosting grade level Social Zooms for all students in 1st grade. Social Zooms are intended to be an unstructured space for kids to connect. Ms. Katie and Mrs. Ruhl are hosting the Zoom, but the purpose of the Social Zoom is to allow students to connect organically. They will ensure the Zoom remains school appropriate, safe, and comfortable for all students!

Prioritizing Assignments on SeeSaw

Because all families have differing needs, we would like to help with prioritizing the schoolwork for your students at home. In order to offer some flexibility in managing school requirements and activities in your home, all assignments in Seesaw will have a ‘can-do’, ‘must-do’, and or 'proficiency check' notation assigned to it.

The top tier is 'proficiency check' and these are the assignments that show cumulative learning and show us that your child is proficient in the skills and standards that we have been working on throughout the week or in previous weeks. These will be recorded as proof of your student's learning and proficiency of standards.

The next tier is notated as ‘must-do’ and these are the highly suggested work to do during distance learning to help your child learn and reinforce new skills and standards as well as deepen their understanding of the content covered. These are required activities to keep them on track for acquiring grade-level standards. They will also help your child gain proficiency towards the skills and standards on their 'proficiency check' assignments.

The final tier is notated as ‘can-do’ activities and incorporating these additional activities would mimic your child being physically in school and practicing all grade-level standards and skills as well as replicating the full rigor of being in 1st grade. These activities offer additional practice needed to master skills and standards and are highly suggested but would be the best option for families to cut out if time or circumstances demand it.

Additionally, we know families are doing real-world learning experiences and are providing other opportunities for the kids to learn as well throughout the week, and we love and value that! Education will always look different for all students and that is okay. This is only a clarification tool for us to help parents, and caretakers to help plan and schedule your day. We are here to work with you, and we appreciate all that you are doing on your side to do what is best for your kiddo. We will continue to do our best in this situation as well; thank you for your grace and please continue to communicate with us as we are all in this together.
