5th/6th Grade Music (Cooper)

Course Description

Music class this quarter will focus on Recorder Karate.

Students will learn skills like reading music notes, reading and counting rhythms, and we will cover music vocabulary and markings in music (breath marks, dynamics, stylistic markings).

Recorder Karate is an excellent tool for scaffolding and differentiated learning.  Students who have experience can move quickly through the songs and everyone moves at their own pace.

5th Grade Music Week of 9-14-20

This week, you will be in person on Tuesday.  Here are some activities to complete by Friday.

Monday: Check your assignments. Make sure you've completed last week's assignments. Practice your next belt - record when ready.

Tuesday:   In person, make sure you ask me any questions you may have about Recorder Karate.

Wednesday: Which belt are you on? Find one thing you struggle with, set a goal (staying on tempo, clapping rhythms correctly, playing correct notes), make the changes to achieve the goal.

Thursday: Make sure you've seen your feedback in FlipGrid (in your flipgrid dashboard).  Get as far as you can in the recorder songs, checking to make sure you're following the feedback given.

Hi everyone!

The schedule for this week is:

Tuesday: We will review the White Belt for recorder karate.  We will play it together (bring your recorders!) and then we will take a look at the Yellow Belt song.  Your first attempt (video response on FlipGrid) is due on Friday, September 4th.

Thursday:  We will have a rhythm practice with clapping and counting half-notes, quarter-notes, and rests, then we will review the Yellow Belt together.  We will be playing it together and I might have volunteers play for the class.

Can't wait to see everyone!
