SOCIAL STUDIES UPDATE (NOVEMBER 18- NOVEMBER 22):

This week in Social Studies, students will:
  • Analyze a Primary Source that they have selected to use for their Independent Research Project.
  • Make Historical Comparisons using Primary Sources and Secondary Sources.
  • Begin compiling a Working Bibliography for their Independent Research Project.

SOCIAL STUDIES UPDATE (NOVEMBER 12- NOVEMBER 15):

This week in Social Studies, students will:
  • Recognize the components that make a Primary Source.
  • Complete a workshop using Primary Sources and Multiple Perspectives.
  • Research where to find Primary Sources for their Independent Research Project.
  • Compile a Working Bibliography to demonstrate mastery over this Historical Thinking Skill (Analyzing Primary Sources).

SOCIAL STUDIES UPDATE (NOVEMBER 4- NOVEMBER 8):

This week in Social Studies, students will:
  • Educate their classmates about the candidates and issues that our being voted on in the Thornton Elections
  • Participate in a Mock Election as educated voters using the Thornton Ballot
  • Complete a Current Events using Depth and Complexity

SOCIAL STUDIES UPDATE (OCTOBER 28- NOVEMBER 1):

This week in Social Studies, students will:
  • Apply their skills to research an assigned candidate or proposition for the upcoming election.
  • Present their findings to their class in order for others to become aware of the issues/positions that are involved with the candidate/proposition.
  • Become informed voters ready to vote in our Mock Election next Tuesday, November 5!

  • Gather information regarding their Branch of Government.
  • Teach the class a Mini-Lesson over their Branch of Government.
  • Complete a Current Event using Depth and Complexity's "Unanswered Questions."

SOCIAL STUDIES UPDATE (SEPTEMBER 23- SEPTEMBER 25):

This week in Social Studies, students will:
  • Investigate how Civil Liberties and Civil Rights are incorporated in the rest of the Constitution's Amendments.
  • Discuss (using Socratic Seminar) the importance and relevance of the Bill of Rights to U.S. Citizens then and now.

  • Discuss the importance of Rights and Responsibilities of U.S. Citizens in a Socratic Seminar.

  • Present their Government's Constitutions to their class.
  • Analyze the United State's Constitution and use it to determine the ability of their own governments' to be successful.
  • Examine the Bill of Rights and the impact that it has on our citizens and our government.

  • Continue creating this governments of their own choice. Students will be presenting their Constitutions next week to their class.
