We will be focused on the art of storytelling. So each week, you will be completing a section of the storytelling unit. Each section is about an hour long so you can space out the videos/activities or do it all at once that week. You will not have to send me any of your responses to the activities unless you would like to. I can track that you have moved through the section from the website on my end.
I'm excited for you guys to try this out as Pixar is home to some of the greatest artists in the world. Animation is also a career option in the arts. :)

Week of 4/20/20 - 4/24/20

Hey Art Students!

After deciding on your environmental cause/issue, I want you to design and create your propaganda poster this week (due 4/24).
Keep in mind the propaganda techniques that you wanted to use that we learned about last week to create your design.
You may either use supplies you have at home to draw on paper or you may use Gravit Designer. Gravit Designer is basically a free knock-off of Adobe Illustrator. It may take some clicking around and getting used to but it's pretty great once you get the hang of it.

The Propaganda Posters should include:
-Text saying what your cause is, or punchline
-Imagery of your cause to visually explain the point of your poster
-Template size should be 8.5x11" or 11x17"

Once you are done either drawing your poster or creating it in Gravit, send me your poster when it's done. :)

For Gravit Designer:
When you sign up you do not need to use the free trial of the PRO version, just click the free basic version. Therefore, you will not need to input any payment of any kind, this is FREE. You will have to input your email and a password in order to use it. They will then send you an email to activate your Gravit use that you will need to click the link in order to activate. (This email will probably show up in your junk folder.)

Week of 4/13/20-4/17/20

Hey Art Students!

For the next two weeks, I want to focus on advertising and propaganda. In collaboration with Mrs.Valenza, since Earth Day is coming up on the 22nd, I would like you all to come up with a propaganda style poster to bring awareness to an environmental cause/issue of your choice.

But first, for this week, I would like you to watch the following video on advertising and propaganda techniques. Then, think about an environmental cause that is important to you that you would like to bring awareness to. Then, I would like you to think about how you could persuade the public to help with your environmental cause/issue by using some of the techniques mentioned in the video. Pretend that these posters are going to be posted all over Denver, how could you make it eye-catching and stick with people?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8qxE_pFJ7U

Mrs. Valenza shared some examples of environmental issues you can advertise:

- water use

- deforestation

- screen time vs. green time <-- getting people off of their screens and out into nature more often

- climate change

- waste disposal

-air pollution

- over consumption of products

When you have figured out which cause/issue you would like to advertise and promote, send me an email with your environmental cause/issue and a short write up of what techniques you can use on your poster when you start designing it next week (4/20-4/24). Again, for this week I am not expecting a poster done, just start brainstorming and coming up with your ideas for the poster you will make next week.

Week of 4/6/20 - 4/10/20

Hey Art Students!

As I mentioned in the email I sent, I will be posting your assignments during distance learning here.

For the first week, I want you to take the time for yourself and think about how you are feeling during this time and create artwork to reflect and express that! The painter that is famous for his emotion filled paintings is Jackson Pollock. I would like for you to watch the following video about Jackson Pollock’s painting style. His chaotic non-traditional brush strokes show his rebellious way of life.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EncR_T0faKM

Then it’s time to express yourself using the website Psyko Paint. You can use different strokes and styles made famous by various artists. Think about the expression the strokes make and the colors that reflect how you are feeling. Take some time to google and look into what colors are associated with which emotions. You can send your creation to me through email, if you do not feel comfortable doing so for this emotion project you don't need to. If you have art supplies at home you can draw on a piece of paper. Just take a picture of it and email it to me again if you want to.
