4th Grade Math- Week of January 20, 2020

This week, students will be completing the Prodigy Mid-year assessment to highlight their current strengths and weaknesses. If you would like a copy of your child's report, please let me know and I can email it to you.

Students will also be working on divisibility rules for various numbers through a Math Workshop and will be writing up their thinking and process in a paragraph. This will be the graded assignment for this week.

4th Grade Math- Week of January 13, 2020

Welcome back! Students will be asked to solve place value math problems in order to complete an escape room activity. Following this, students will be taking pre-assessments so that they can be placed in the appropriate group levels in our next unit. Finally, we will be reviewing and/or learning the steps to long division (4th grade group will be working on long division of whole numbers; 5th grade group will be working on long division of decimal numbers; 6th grade group will be working on ratio rates). There will not be a graded assignment for this week as the pre-assessments will not be entered into the grade book.

4th Grade Math- Week of 12/2/19- 12/6/19

Students will only have class twice this week as we will be MAP testing on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. As such, students will be focusing on a Mystery Math problem and writing up their process, thinking, and solution for this week's grade.

Please check your child's grades on Infinite Campus! All past assignments are due by Wednesday, 12/11/19. If you have any questions regarding past assignments, please email me. Some assignments have been posted on this forum; however, if you do not see the one you need, please email me prior to 12/10/19.

4th Grade Math- Week of November 18, 2019

We are going to start out the week with a Mystery Monday. I will be looking to see if students use their word problem ninja skills. I will also be asking students to write up their mathematical thinking in a paragraph.

The remainder of the week will be filled with math centers. Most students are moving to the next level this week and will start their math centers with an informational video. This week's grades will be coming from the Mystery Monday write-up and the worksheet center.

We will finish up the week with some fun Thanksgiving mathematical puzzle on Friday.

4th Grade Math- Week of 11/12/19

Students will be working in their center groups this week. As they show mastery with two assignments, they will be moved to the next mathematical level. Each day, students will complete an assignment, game, or Prodigy assignment that will be graded at the end of the week. We will also complete a Math Mystery day in which students will need to solve and write up their mathematical thinking that brought them to their answer.

4th Grade Math- Week of Nov. 4

This week students will begin centers. They will be grouped according to their abilities and needs. I will be emailing each family to let them know which group their child has been placed in.

Math Problem Write-up Example

Question: There is a warehouse that just received 7 crates. In each crate, there are 13 boxes. How many boxes were
to the warehouse?

Answer: In this problem, I was searching for how many total boxes were in the warehouse. To solve this, I used a tape diagram. First, I drew a tape diagram with seven equal pieces because I needed to represent the 7 whole crates. Then I put the number 13 in each crate to represent the boxes in each crate.
                                        __________________
 Diagram:                       |13|13|13|13|13|13|13|
                                        ------------------------------
Then I multiplied 13 x 7 and got 91. The answer is that there are 91 boxes in the warehouse.

Format:
* Restate the question, NOT the problem!
* Tell the method you used to solve the problem (this may include the strategy and/or the operation).
* Explain your method and thinking in a step by step process.
* State the answer in a clear sentence (make sure to use labels/units!).

4th Grade Math- Week of 10/28/19

This week, students will be divided up into different groups based on their skill. These groups will be rotating between prodigy, an assignment, and small group with the teacher. If you would like to know the specifics of what group your child landed in, please email me and I will let you know.
