Week of March 16th

On Friday, all math students received a packet with math work to complete.  If your student was not present, this packet can be picked up on Monday, 3/16 from 8:30 - 3:30.  If you are unable to access this packet, there are also online assignments on www.khanacademy.org.  If your child does not remember his/her login information, please e-mail me and I will provide you with this information.  The online assignments will be up until Friday.  

Week of March 9th

This week, we will start our unit on time.  Students will be able to tell time using analog clocks, as well as determine how much time has elapsed between a starting point and end point.  We will have a pretest on Monday.  Please continue to work on multiplication fluency at home!

Quiz will be on Friday

Our fractions quiz will be on Friday.  For extra practice at home, there is an assignment in OneNote called "Fractions of a Group".  To get there, follow these steps:

We will be reviewing tomorrow.  You can also practice at home with Khan Academy!

Week of March 2nd

This week, we will continue to work identifying fractions as a part of a group.  For example, if you have a basket of 7 apples and 5 are red, then 5/7 of the apples are red.  We will have an assessment on fractions on Thursday.  It is possible that this assessment will be moved to Friday if there is not enough time to fully review.  Please continue to work on multiplication fluency!

Week of February 24th

This week, we will continue to work on identifying & creating equivalent fractions.  Students will draw models & pictures to determine if a fraction is equivalent, greater than, or less than.  We will also begin working on fractions as a whole item in a part of a group.  For example, if you have a basket of 5 apples, and two of them are green, 2/5 of the basket has green apples.  Please continue to work on multiplication facts at home!

Week of February 19th

This week, we will focus on identifying equivalent fractions.  Students will use drawings to determine how fractions can be equivalent.  Please continue to work on multiplication facts at home!

This week, we will continue to work on fractions on a number line.  We will do a small project where students will create a number line with string.  We will also have a quiz on what we have done with fractions on Friday.  Please continue to work on multiplication facts at home!

Week of February 3rd

This week, we will continue to focus on comparing fractions with drawings.  We will also begin placing fractions on a number line.  For example, the number line will start at 0 and end at 1.  Students will need to be able to break the number line up into equal pieces, such as halves, thirds, or fourths.  We will also understand how to properly label these number lines. 

Week of January 27th

We will have limited time in math due to the field trip & JA in a Day.  We will continue to compare fractions based on drawings.  We will also focus on improving written explanations of how solve specific problems by adding details and math vocabulary. 

Week of January 21st

This week, we will continue to work on fractions.  On Tuesday, students will complete their final draft of last week's math explanation.  Throughout the quarter, we will really be focusing on how to write and improve written explanations of work in order to prepare for CMAS.  For fractions this week, students will understand how to draw fractions, making sure that they are making equal parts of a whole.  We will have limited time in math this week due to the day off & field trip. 

Week of January 13th

This week, we will focus on reestablishing norms, rules, & procedures.  In addition, we will begin our unit on fractions! We will take a pre-assessment and begin identifying how to read and write simple fractions.  We will also understand key vocabulary such as part, whole, numerator, & denominator.  Continue to work on multiplication fluency at home!

Week of December 16th

This week, we will continue to work on division strategies.  We will especially be working on multiplication & division fluency.  Please work on Khan Academy at home for additional practice!

Week of December 9th

This week, we will continue to focus on division strategies as well as work on division fluency.  We will have a quiz on the concept of division as well as key vocabulary on Wednesday, December 11th.  Check Khan Academy for additional practice!

Week of December 2nd

Due to MAP testing, we will have limited time in math this week.  During math, we will continue working on division strategies & how to read/utilize a multiplication/division table.
