Week of November 18th

This week, we will continue to work on the concept of division and understand division vocabulary.  We will also work on how to read the multiplication chart, & how to relate division to multiplication.

Week of November 12th

On Tuesday, November 12th, we will have a quiz on multiplication.  This will include making arrays, solving function tables, & identifying vocabulary words with definitions.  On Wednesday, we will begin our next unit on division.

Week of November 4th

Due to the snow, we will continue to work on making arrays to show a multiplication problem.  We will also focus on using clues to determine rules using input/output tables.  For example, if a number goes "in" as a 5 and comes "out" as a 30, what happened?  Students will need to draw an array to determine that the rule is "times 6".  Using this information, students can then complete the input/output table.

Week of October 28th

This week, students will continue to work on building conceptual understanding of multiplication through repeated addition & drawing/identifying arrays.  We will also focus on skip-counting.  Please work on Khan Academy assignments at home!

Week of October 21st

This week, we will begin multiplication.  First, students will make the connection of multiplication to being repeated addition.  We will focus on drawing diagrams that represent multiplication.  Continue to work on Khan Academy at home!

Week of October 14th

This week, we will continue to work on subtraction with regrouping.  This includes subtracting with many zeroes (ex: 800 - 481).  We will have a quiz on this concept on Wednesday.  Beginning Thursday, we will start introducing multiplication.  First, we will focus on connecting multiplication to repeated addition.

Week of September 23rd

This week, we will continue to work on 3-digit by 3-digit subtraction with regrouping.  We will focus on subtracting with numbers that contain zeroes (ex: 500 - 385).  Writing and solving problems like that at home would be great extra practice!

Week of 9/16

This week, we will review 3-digit addition and estimating.  Students should be able to estimate to the nearest 10 and the nearest 100.  We will have a quiz on these concepts on Tuesday.  Starting Wednesday, students will begin subtraction with 3-digit numbers (with and without regrouping).

Week of September 9th

This week, we will begin working rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and nearest hundred.  We will then apply this to addition so we can estimate sums.  Please work on addition & subtract fluency at home!

Week of September 3rd

This week, we will continue to work on addition with 2 and 3-digit numbers.  This will also involve regrouping.  Please practice addition and subtraction facts at home!  In addition, please check Khan Academy for some additional practice at home.

Week of August 26th

This week, we will continue to work on classroom procedures & expectations.  In conjunction, we will begin our first unit on adding numbers within up to 1,000.  This includes building mastery of adding 2-digit by 2-digit numbers, 2-digit by 3-digit numbers, and 3-digit by 3-digit numbers.  For extra practice at home, your child can work on addition through www.khanacademy.org.  They all have their own username and password.  If your child does not remember this information, let me know and I can send it to you.
