Advocacy update 1/13/2020

1-2 Field Trip to Stock Show:  The 1-2 classes will be going to the Stock Show on Tuesday, Jan. 21st.  This will be an excellent opportunity for our students to leave more about agriculture and environmental education.  Permission slips will be going home on Monday.

 

K-8 Symphony Field Trip:  Westgate will be taking its annual K-8 field trip to the Colorado Symphony on Tuesday, January 28th.  Permission slips will be going home soon. 

JA in a Day:  Friday, Jan. 31st will be our annual JA in a Day!  If you would like to volunteer to teach one of our classes on this day, we would love to have you!!  Contact Holly Peterson at [email protected]  for more information.

 

Westgate is moving towards a “toy free” zone.  We want students to focus on learning and building relationships while they are here, and toys become a disruption to this learning process.  Outdoor equipment (balls, scooters, jump ropes and sidewalk chalk) is still acceptable.  More information is coming soon from admin.  Please let us know if you have any questions.  Thank you so much for your support with this!

Holiday Shop: December 9th-13th

The Westgate Holiday Shop is this week Dec 9-13! Kids will be able to shop during their lunch and after school from 3:30 to 4:30. An informational packet was included in the Friday folders last week. The packet should have included an envelope in which you can send cash or use the new voucher system if you'd like to pay by credit card. Only kids with vouchers or cash will be allowed to shop. If using vouchers please be sure to write down the authorization code as well as the dollar amount (minus fees).

 

Winter Conferences

Hello! 
 
It is time for our Winter Parent/Teacher Conferences!  Please sign up for only ONE-time slot! You can meet with several teachers during this time slot.  The signups will close on Friday, December 13th.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Kenner at [email protected]. 
 

Reminders for the field trip!

Just a reminder for tomorrow, please send your child with a sack lunch because there will be no hot lunches when we get back to school to eat lunch. Also please send your student with a small snack to eat during intermission. This snack needs to be handheld and not require any utensils or microwaving to eat.
Also, have your child wear their red Westgate shirt. Thank you! 

Drop Everything and Read Fundraiser Tomorrow

Tomorrow, Friday will be D.E.A.R time for an hour.  The students will be able to wear their pajamas for this fabulous fundraiser!

Halloween Party: The parties will be Thursday, October 31st from 2:15-3:15.  Students should not wear their costumes to school.  They should bring their costumes to school and will be able to change right after lunch.

Parent/Teacher Conferences:  Parent/Teacher conferences are this Thursday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.  We look forward to meeting with you!

1-2 Parent-Teacher Conference Sign-up

Hello Westgate Families,
 
Please sign up for a start time in one of the available slots. Parent-teacher conferences are going to work differently this time around. You are signing up for one-time slot and requesting the teachers you would like to meet during that one-time slot. The teachers will make a final decision about which teachers are in each conference and you may not be able to meet with everyone for the entire 20 minutes.
 
Sign-ups are first-come, first-serve. You can also sign up with a specials teacher for 15 minutes separate from your other conference.

Curriculum Night:

Curriculum Night is a chance for parents to come to hear about what their children will be learning in their literacy, math, science and social studies classes this year.  We ask that parents attend without their children so that we can have your full attention and you are able to leave feeling like you have had all your questions answered

Afternoon Snacks:  We do have an afternoon snack time from 1:45-1:55. You are welcome to send a 2nd snack for your child during this time.  It’s completely optional.  

Picture Day:  Your child should have had a picture order form come home in their Friday Folder.  If you would like to order pictures for your child, please send this envelope back with your child by Friday, August 16th.  You can either pay online or send a check.   

Curriculum Night: This year, Curriculum Night for 1st and 2nd grade will be held on Thursday, August 29th from 7:00 – 8:00 PM.  We have a staggered schedule for different grade levels.  Please check the Westgate calendar for more information. 

Advocacy Theme:  Each month we focus on one aspect of social-emotional development.  This month, we are focused on “Starting Strong and Self Awareness”.   We will learn about building strong relationships, establishing classroom norms and goal setting.   

1st Quarter Club Sign-ups DUE:  Friday, August 16th is the deadline to sign up for 1st quarter clubs.   

No School:  Friday, August 30th there will be no school.
