Hamilton's Literacy 10-28-19

Literacy :  This week we will focus on: 

Memory Words:  who, where, what, which why

Spelling:  Digraph /th/ pattern

Grammar:  Using action verbs in sentence writing

Fluency:  "An Odd Pet for Oswald”

Writing: Drafting and revising personal narratives using transition words

This week, ask your child to explain the purpose of transition words.

Grammar:  Use question words to answer questions. 

Fluency:  "Ben’s Shop 

WritingDrafting and revising personal narratives.  Expanding on “small moments” 

This week, ask your child to explain which small moment they are going to write about.

Memory Words:  she, her, he, his, I, my him,

Spelling:  Digraph /sh/

Grammar:  Personal and Possessive Pronouns

Fluency:  "Ettabetta’s Radish Patch”

Writing: Planning and drafting personal narratives

This week, ask your child to make rhyming words with the /sh/ pattern.

This week is a short week, so I will be reinforcing skill building with them such as sentence structure, reviewing nouns and verbs and rhyming. 

Memory Words:  I, my she, her, he, his

Spelling:  Reviewing short vowels and /ch/ digraphs

Grammar:  Nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives

Fluency:  "Cass’s Cat”

Writing: Personal Narratives and sentence structure

This week, ask your child to rhyme words with the following patterns:

       -op           -at           -og                -ug

Spelling: short vowel words:    cat, flat, big, dig, best, nest, hop, mop, rug, tug

Grammar:  Understand and use verbs, adjectives and prepositional phrases.

Fluency

Writing:  declarative, exclamatory and interrogative sentences and using adjectives to add more detail to nouns.

This week, ask your child to act out different verbs.

Grammar:  understanding and using nouns and verbs

Fluency Practice: “Is It Fun”

Writing:  Understanding different types of sentences: declarative, exclamatory and interrogative

This week, ask your child to explain nouns to you.

Welcome to my literacy class!!  I am excited to be teaching your child this year!  This week, we will be focused on reviewing letter sounds, writing letters with the proper formation and sentence structure.  I will also be doing small groups to get a feel for where each child is at in their decoding abilities.
