Dinosaur Palooza! 5/6/19

Our field trip is TOMORROW!

Tomorrow we will be heading to the Morrison Dinosaur museum. This field trip is kick starting our end of the year cumulative project about Dinosaurs!

A couple reminders:

  1. Wear Purple!
  2. Bring a disposable lunch. Please pack your snack(s) SEPARATE in your child’s backpack. Please DO NOT send the Pizza Lunchables. They take a considerable amount of time for kinders to assemble and can be very messy. Thanks you for understanding! :)
  3. We will be leaving around 9:15 so please make sure you aren’t late to school. We should be back around 1pm.
  4. Half day pickup will be at 1pm in our normal spot. Full day kids will have normal pick up.

If you didn’t receive an email from me asking you to be a chaperone, that means someone else was picked!

Please reach out with any questions!

Dinosaur Cumulative Unit 5/6/19

This week in Science, we are starting our Living Vs. Non-living unit. This week will be more of an introduction where we learn what something needs in order to be considered living. It has to answer yes to all of these questions: Can it move or grow? Does it need water/food? Can it reproduce? Can it breathe? If yes, then it is living!

Towards the end of the week, we will be switching gears into dinosaurs and learning about Paleontologists and  how they studied the dinosaurs!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! May 30th from 5:30-6:30pm will be our Dinosaur Museum. Please come to check out the hard work we will be completing for the remainder of the year!

Leprechaun Trap Reflection 3/8/19

Hello Families,
This week we will reflect on our design and efficacy of our leprechaun traps. That darn leprechaun keeps us on our toes and threatens to return next year! We will then have an open exploration using materials in our environment to build creative machines.

From Rochelle Goforth:

Dear Westgate Community,

Due to the predicted inclement weather and unsafe road conditions, all after school clubs and activities have been cancelled for Wednesday, March 13th, 2019.  Please stay safe and thank you for your understanding.

We will send out any additional updates as needed.

Thank you!

Leprechaun STEM Week! 3/11/19

This week in Science we are going to use what we have learned about physics and simple machines to continue our STEM experiments. Because the 17th is St. Patrick's day, we are going to catch a leprechaun! We could use some help collecting materials that we will use in the construction of our leprechaun traps. Please send any of the following materials to school with your students by Wednesday, March 13th.
  • Cardboard tubes
  • small cardboard boxes/shoe boxes
  • empty yogurt containers (washed)
  • plastic containers from takeout food
Thank you so much for your support! I am really excited to see what the students come up with.

Force, Motion, and Magnets 3/4/19

This week in Science we are wrapping up our Physics unit. We will be doing some wrap up experiments with magnets. Toward the end of the week we will begin some STEM experiments that wrap up our Physics unit for the next two weeks.
