Update January 28th, 2019

Children will learn to name and write uppercase R and lowercase r. They will learn the sound r stands for in words like rug, ring, and radio, and discover what synonyms are. 

We will read about the Superkids cleaning and painting their new clubhouse. 

We will write sentences together about things that have happened in class. Then children will write a sentence about something they’ve done and how they felt about it.
 
At home, continue letting your child play on the Superkids online fun app. Also, you can have fun letting them experiment with trying to use the sounds they know to write a word or two on the grocery list perhaps. Don't worry about if it isn't correct. The idea is they just see their learning as a practical skill to have.

Weekly Update January 22, 2019

No school on Monday in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
This week in literacy, we are learning all about the letter Rr, and writing sentences with a noun and verb. We call these the naming part (noun) and the telling part (verb). 
To support your child at home, you can checkout starfall.com online and explore the letter Rr lesson there. Also, you can let your child use the Superkids Online Fun.

Week of January 14th, 2019

This week in literacy, we are learning to write declarative sentences, all about the letter Bb, the plural -s, and the memory word of.

Weekly Update 12/17/18

This week is our last week before break! We have raced through the last Superkid Hot Rod, and will finish up the semester with Us. This unit is about the whole Superkids club. 
To support your child at home, focus on recognizing, tracing the letter Uu, and listening for its' sound in words. Also, you can access all the units on the Superkids online fun!

Weekly Update 12/10/18

In literacy we are learning about the letter Hh with Hot Rod. Children will practice writing Uppercase and Lowercase Hh, learning the memory word the, and continue practicing making lists. The best way to support them at home, is to give them access to the Superkids Online Fun. You can also help kids recognize when you are out-and-about and find fun words with the /h/ sound in it :)

This week in Literacy, we will be learning about our friend Ettabetta where we will be learning the letter Ee and the sound it makes. Don't forget about Superkids online! Please email me if you can't access it and need more instruction! It is a great resource, especially with our big winter break coming up! 

Weekly Update 11/26/18

When we return from Thanksgiving break, students will learn to name and write uppercase F and lowercase f They will learn the sound f stands for in words like lift, off, and fast. We will meet Fritz who loves fishing, and spending time at the pond. 

We will learn true facts about ponds, and be able to list them.

Weekly Update 11/13/2018

Just a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL MONDAY 11/12. 
 
Students will learn to name and write uppercase T and lowercase t. They will learn the sound t stands for in words like tuba, trampoline, and telephone. We will meet Tic, Tac, and Toc, three friends who are triple trouble and a triple treat, and we will learn about musical instruments and games. 

We will learn how to interview someone. Then they will draw and label a picture to tell about a classmate they’ve interviewed, and share it with the class.
 
You can enhance learning at home using the superkids online fun app.

Weekly Update 11/5/2018

This week in Literacy we are starting our new superkid Icky! Icky loves technology and TV! 
 
In Superkids we are learning much more than just a letter a week. We are beginning to tap out words and string them together to read simple 3 letter words or words that have the sounds that we have learned in them. 
 
This week help your child find the letter i in words and by itself. We are also learning that i can be it's own word! 

Weekly Update 10/29/2018

I can’t believe it’s already the end of October!
This week we are learning about our new super kid Lily. She will teach us about letter L and continue helping us blend sounds together. We have already learned C, O, G, A, D, S, and now L. There are so many words you can make with those letters! 
 
At dinner this week ask how to spell words like: Dad, Dog, Gas, Lad, Log or any other 3 letter word with those letters!

This week in Literacy we will be continuing our new unit on Sal. He will teach children the letter S and what sound it makes! 
 
A great way to support at home is find things that start with the /s/ sound!

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Break! 
 
Remember, that you can log into Superkids for your child, and enjoy some fun games and activities at home! Some families were having a little trouble with that, so I am attaching instructions to help you get started.
 
This week we are starting our new Superkid, Doc. With that, children learn the letter D and the sound that it makes.
