MATH UPDATE: FEBRUARY 4- FEBRUARY 8

This week in Math, students will:
  • Create a Foldable using Algebraic Vocabulary.
  • Complete Workshops using One- and Two-Step Equations, Like Terms, and Inequalities.
  • Participate in a T.I.M.E. Rotation using One- and Two-Step Equations, Like Terms, and Inequalities.

MATH UPDATE: JANUARY 22- JANUARY 25

This week in Math, students will:
  • Complete Workshops involving Number Sense and Distributive Property.
  • Participate in T.I.M.E. Rotation over Number Sense and Distributive Property.
  • Take a Checkpoint to determine where their mastery of the concepts of the week are (needs assistance, working towards independence, mastery)

MATH UPDATE: JANUARY 14- JANUARY 18

This week in Math, students will:
  • Take a Pre-Diagnostic over our next Unit, Expressions and Equations.
  • Participate in Workshops over the Distributive Property.
  • Complete a T.I.M.E. Rotation involving Distributive Property.
  • Engage with a Guest Speaker who built a Tiny House Community in Guatemala
  • Reflect on the Tiny House Communities that we completed and presented right before break.

MATH UPDATE: DECEMBER 16- DECEMBER 20

This week in Math, students will:
  • Complete their Tiny House Community Summative using Area, Perimeter, and Scale, along with budgeting techniques.
  • Participate in a Gallery Walk with the entire 7th Grade Math population and determine which group has the most Economical and Creative Use of Space to "win" the bid for creating a Tiny House Community.
  • Reflect on improvements needed and individual strengths that were part of the Tiny House Community Summative.
Please remember that this is a short week. Students have a half day on Thursday and begin their Winter Break Friday. Looking forward to seeing you at conferences!

MATH UPDATE: DECEMBER 10- DECEMBER 14

This week in Math, students will:
  • Determine what criteria will be needed in order to "win the bid" for most Economical and Creative Use of Space for their Tine House Community.
  • Assess which materials will be most cost-effective for their building projects.
  • Create Blueprints that demonstrate their understanding of how scale, area and perimeter are used in order to realize their Tiny House Community.
  • Began compiling their research onto a Tri-Fold that they will present to the other 7th Grade Math Class.

MATH UPDATE: DECEMBER 3- DECEMBER 7

This week in Math, students will:
  • Finish creating their Tiny Houses for their Summative (Due Wednesday, December 5)
  • Participate in an Extension Activity in which they will determine if the City of Thornton would be able to economically create a Tiny House Community to house homeless people in the community.

Charter School High School Program OPEN HOUSE!

November 26, 2018

6:00-7:30 pm: Charter School High School Program Open House

1500 E. 128th Ave., Thornton, CO 80241 (Adams 12 Educational Support Center)

Come to learn about Charter School high school programs at New America, Prospect Ridge Academy, Westgate Community School, and Stargate. Meet administration and staff and get your questions answered. Limited choice may be available at some high schools.

Each School will have individual tables for parents, students, and families to learn about their school and its programming.

For this Unit in Geometry, students are creating their own Tiny House. They will need to use Perimeter and Area, along with Scaling, in order to complete this Assessment correctly. The completed Summative will be due December 14. 
 
Attached is the instructions for completing the Tiny House and all its components.

MATH UPDATE: NOVEMBER 26- NOVEMBER 30

This week in Math, students will:
  • Participate in Workshops that focus on using R.A.M.P. to answer mathematical questions related to Geometry
  • Contribute as a group member in T.I.M.E. Rotations over Geometry Skills
  • Begin working on their Geometry Unit Summative- creating a Tiny House
