SCIENCE UPDATE: FEBRUARY 18- FEBRUARY 22

This week in Science, students will:
  • Present in a Gallery Walk over their findings for their Rocks and Minerals Summative Experiment.
  • Reflect on their growth in the Rocks and Minerals Unit.
  • Assess their strengths and areas of growth for our next Unit, Chemistry using a Pre-Diagnostic (Assessment).
  • Identify the Properties of Matter.

  • Complete their Earthquakes Activity and Debate.
  • Participate in their Summative Gallery Walk (Tuesday)
  • Take a Pre-Diagnostic for our next Unit (Chemistry)

SCIENCE UPDATE: FEBRUARY 4- FEBRUARY 8

This week in Science, students will:
  • Complete a Lab over Plate Tectonics.
  • Investigate Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Volcanoes, and Floods as vessels for movement of rocks and Geological Timescale components.
Parents: Please take a moment to go over the Summative Instructions and Rubric with your student (these are linked on to our Class Pages). These experiments will be conducted at home with only the findings presented at a Mini Gallery Walk on Tuesday, February 12.

  • Watch a video and complete a lab over Erosion and Weathering.
  • Participate in a Lab over Movement of Rocks.
  • Learn more about their Summative through the Instructions and Rubric handout.

This week in Science, students will:
  • Classify Fossils using Scientific Properties.
  • Determine the Geological Timescale of the Earth through fossils and rocks.
  • Begin to evaluate weathering, erosion, and other forms of movement and terrestrial changes.

SCIENCE UPDATE: JANUARY 14- JANUARY 18

This week in Science, students will:
  • Participate in a Scavenger Hunt over Minerals used in our classroom and Pod.
  • Investigate Fossils through reading, lab, and a mini-project.

SCIENCE UPDATE: DECEMBER 16- DECEMBER 20

This week in Science, students will:
  • Analyze a Mineral of their choice in order to define what a mineral is.
  • Utilize their Math Minds to calculate the Geological History of the Earth.
  • Participate in a Lab/Activity to create their own Fossils.
Please remember that this is a short week. Students have a half day on Thursday and begin Winter Break on Friday. Looking forward to seeing you are Conferences!

SCIENCE UPDATE: DECEMBER 10- DECEMBER 14

This week in Science, students will:
  • Classify rocks in a lab using rocks that they have found on their own during our "Field Trip" around school grounds.
  • Determine the properties that fulfill the requirements of a Mineral.
  • Research the Earth's History and assess how it relates to our Unit in general.

  • Finish creating their Character Posters that represent something that they have learned in our Deep Space Unit (Due Wednesday, December 5)
  • Complete a Pre-Diagnostic Assessment over our next Unit, Rocks and Minerals
  • Discover the Learning Targets associated with the Rocks and Minerals Unit

Charter School High School Program OPEN HOUSE!

November 26, 2018

6:00-7:30 pm: Charter School High School Program Open House

1500 E. 128th Ave., Thornton, CO 80241 (Adams 12 Educational Support Center)

Come to learn about Charter School high school programs at New America, Prospect Ridge Academy, Westgate Community School, and Stargate. Meet administration and staff and get your questions answered. Limited choice may be available at some high schools.

Each School will have individual tables for parents, students, and families to learn about their school and its programming.

 

UNIT TWO_DEEP SPACE_SUMMATIVE INSTRUCTIONS AND RUBRIC

Students in 8th Grade Science are finishing up their Deep Space Unit. That means it is Summative Time!! For this Assessment, students are creating Character Posters. These Posters will represent a Celestial Body (or anything Deep Space related that I approve) as a Person. They will need to use their creative brain along with their logical brain for this project. 
 
The Posters will be due Friday, November 30th. I will be hanging the posters on my classroom walls for Quarter 2 Conferences!
 
Attached is the Instructions and Rubric for this Summative.
