Week of 5/28 - 5/31

This week in Language Arts students will work toward taking their research and organizing it into a 5 paragraph essay.  We will also (hopefully) work hard to finish our read aloud book this week!

Park Day POSTPONED

Park Day was originally scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, May 23rd.  Due to weather, Park Day and Community Clean Up have been postponed to next Wednesday, May 29th.

Week of 5/20 - 5/24

This week students will begin to research their essential question, and start to plant/write their 5 paragraph essay on it.

Research Essay

This week we have been working on picking an essential question to research.  Students picked one based on their own interest and then began to outline it on OneNote.  If your student has not finished it, it would be a good idea for them to do so over the weekend so they can hop right into research on Monday.

They need to go to login.microsoftonline.com and use their normal computer username and password.  It's in OneNote, under their name and the Language Arts section.

Week of 5/13 - 5/17

We will be continuing to learn about researching on the internet, and how to take notes.  Students will choose a research topic this week and begin researching it for their paper.

Week of 5/6 - 5/10

This week we will only be meeting a handful of times, as we will be MAP testing much of the week, and participating in our Run 4 Funds!

Students will continue to add their poems into their PowerPoint poetry book, and if time permits we will begin learning about researching on the internet.

Week of 4/29 - 5/3

This week we will take our knowledge of figurative language and use it to write poems, learning many different types of poems - haikus, diamantes, tongue twisters, etc.

Week of 4/22 - 4/26

This week we will be finishing up our study of figurative language, learning about personification and onomatopoeia.  Students will then create informational posters/drawings about the different figurative language types that we have studied.

Week of 4/15 - 4/19

This week in Language Arts we will be continuing our study of figurative language to work toward becoming better writers.  We will study idioms, similes, metaphors, and more.

Week of 4/8 - 4/12

This week we will only meet a couple of times for Language Arts, due to CMAS testing.  We will be beginning our unit on figurative language and poetry, with some fun figurative language activities!

Week of 3/11 - 3/15

We will finish reading Percy Jackson this week, as well as reading some more Greek myths whose stories appear in our novel.  Students will be able to discuss both the novel and the myths in our end of quarter assessment.

Week of 3/4 - 3/8

This week in Language Arts we will continue reading Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.  We will also be reading some of the original Greek myths the story is based on, and comparing and contrasting them.

Week of 2/25 - 3/1

This week in Language Arts we will continue to read Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.  Students will choose an event that they found most interesting and do a detailed illustration of it, and describe in depth what happened in their own words.

Week of 2/18 - 2/22

This week we will continue reading our whole class novel, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters.  Students will solo read, partner read, and follow along as I read aloud.  They will answer in depth questions about the novel using Depth & Complexity.
