Week of May 28th

This week, students will learn about the Civil Rights Movement.  We will understand the causes and effects of the Civil Rights Movement, as well as what was occurring in Colorado during this time. 

Week of May 20th

This week, students will work on finishing up their Night of the Notables projects.  As students finish their posters, they will add timelines and bibliographies.  Night of the Notables is this Thursday, May 23rd.  Students will arrive at 5:00pm to help set up.  Parents will be invited upstairs at 5:30 - 6:30.  If your child does not yet have an outfit, please make arrangements this week!

Week of May 13th

Important Information for Night of the Notables:
 
1.  Students have made a document in Microsoft Word Online to put pictures for printing.  Due to the internet filter, it is difficult to access photos for this.  Please help your child find pictures to place in this document.  If you have access to a printer at home, it would be very helpful if you could print them and bring them to school.  If you do not have printer access, I am able to print them.
 
2.  Your child will be dressing up as their notable person.  If you have not started planning an outfit for this, please start! Night of the Notables is on Thursday, May 23rd from 5:30 - 6:30.  Students should arrive dressed as their person at 5:00 to help set up. 
 
This week, we will finish making edits & revisions to the biographies.  Students will start constructing their poster. 

Week of May 6th

This week, students will finish their rough drafts of their biographies.  We will work on conclusions on Monday and Tuesday.  The rest of the week will be spent making edits & revisions with peers & by themselves.  Night of the Notables will be on Thursday, May 23rd, from 5:30 - 6:30. Please plan on having students arrive at 5:00pm as they will help setup for the event. Parents will be invited up at 5:30. 

Week of April 29th

This week, we will continue to draft our biographies for Night of the Notables.  Students will be required to write a minimum of 5 paragraphs.  This includes an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.  Night of the Notables will be on Thursday, May 23rd, from 5:30 - 6:30.  Please plan on having students arrive at 5:00pm as they will help setup for the event.  Parents will be invited up at 5:30. 

Week of April 22nd

This week, students will finish collecting fact fragments on their notable person.  We will begin drafting biographies as well.  Rough drafts will be completed by the start of next week.  Each student is expected to have at least 5 paragraphs.

Week of April 15th

This week, students will choose a who they will research for their Night of the Notables research.  Students will use sources to write down fact fragments about their person so they can write a biography.  We will begin writing biographies next week. 

Week of 4/8/19

This week, we will continue to learn about Colorado's role during World War II and learn about Camp Amache, a Japanese internment camp in Colorado. We will also be starting our Night of the Notables project next week! In 4th grade, students must choose someone who is notable in Colorado.  They could be from Colorado, or did their notable work in Colorado.  Please start brainstorming potential ideas!

 

Week of 3/18/19

Due to testing, we will have limited time for social studies.  We will continue to learn about Colorado's role during World War II and learn about Camp Amache, a Japanese internment camp in Colorado. 

Week of 3/11

This week, we will understand the causes & effects of the Dust Bowl & its impact during the Great Depression.  We will discuss how the two major events intertwined as a result of the country's actions during WWI and the 1920's.  

Week of March 4th

This week, we will begin discussing events that led to World War I.  We will eventually focus on what was happening in Colorado during this time, and the role Colorado played in the war.

Week of 2/25/19

This week, we will continue to learn about the rise of unions in Colorado.  We will also learn about the events that happened Ludlow, a labor conflict that occurred in Colorado. 

Week of 2/19/19

This week, we will continue to learn about industries in Colorado during the industrial revolution and the effect of the assembly line.  We will understand how these new working conditions led to the rise of Colorado unions.  

Week of 2/11/19

This week, we will wrap up our learning about Women's Suffrage and begin learning about the reasons for Colorado Unions and the role they played in the labor force.
