Please consider volunteering for JA In A Day!

We Need a Volunteer Like YOU on Friday, January 25th for JA IN A DAY!

Kids believe they can be whatever they want when they grow up. And they’re right. But getting there isn’t always easy. No matter what your profession, your life experience and determination has prepared you to serve as a role model — not just to your children, but to their peers too.

Junior Achievement (JA) is partnering with Westgate to provide vital enrichment programs to students. In order for your school to take advantage of this exciting opportunity, we need your help to facilitate one of JA’s proven programs.   As a JA volunteer, you will use your life experience to become a role model for local students, teaching them about the “economics of life,” and helping them understand the fundamental connection between school and success.

You do not need any special financial skills or knowledge in order to volunteer. JA provides you with everything you need to be successful in the classroom. Volunteers receive training on how to use JA’s hands-on curriculum, and the teacher is there with you for support.

12/17 - 12/20

This week in Math we will be learning about factors & multiples, as well as moving into multi-digit multiplication.

Week of 12/10 - 12/14

This week in Math we will be finishing our study of borrowing with subtraction of multi-digit numbers, as well as assessing our understanding of addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers.

Week of 12/3 - 12/7

This week in math we will be moving on from addition and into subtraction, connecting it back to addition with our knowledge of fact families, and learning the standard algorithm with carrying.  We will also be MAP testing.

Week of 11/26 - 11/30

In math this week we will be finishing up our study of addition, with our final strategy regrouping (the standard addition algorithm).  Students will practice addition with multi digit numbers, understanding why we "carry" numbers to other place values.

Week of 11/13 - 11/16

This week students will continue to review Splitting and Landmark Numbers for addition, as well as learning about Number Line Jumping and the Regrouping Algorithm.

Week of 11/5 - 11/9

This week in math we are continuing our work with addition.  We will have Mystery Monday as usual, and we will continue work on different addition strategies.  We will be improving our knowledge of splitting with addition, as well as number line jumping and addition with landmark numbers.

Week of 10/29-11/2

This week we will be moving on to factors and multiples, leading into our study of operations, starting with addition and subtraction.

Week of 10/22 - 10/26

This week we are finishing up rounding.  Understanding the steps, why we use it, how it's the same steps regardless of the size of the number, as well as knowing what to do when a 9 is rounded up.

Week of 10/15 - 10/19

This week we will be working on rounding, and how it fits in to our prior knowledge of number sense and place value.

Week of 9/24 - 9/26

We finished our unit on Place Value and Comparing Numbers, now we will begin learning to round numbers.  We will also have a Mystery Monday math workshop as usual!
