Math 7 Class Update - Week of 9/29/2025

Hello All! As we come into October break our seventh graders will push one final hill in our closing of chapter 3. We have actually moved cleanly through this material and are at a great point for evaluation. Thus, we will start this week by preparing the the 15-question test which we will take on Wednesday, and students will have two practice-tests available to them for studying. One to complete in class and a second to take home and use in their own time. There will be no homework this week to open some time for test prep. As an additional heads-up, seventh graders have a field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Sciences on Tuesday.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 9/22/25

Hello All! This week, we will continue our dive into algebraic expressions. Particularly, this week, we will be learning how to add and subtract algebraic expressions with like terms. This week, students will be responsible for three assignments: this week's homework(20 problems, or less than 7 per-night if completed in equal segments on the nights of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday), and the 2.1-2.2 quiz. Please look out for the conference link coming out later this week.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 9/15/2025

Hello All! This week, our students will close chapter 2 and proceed into chapter 3 of our curriculum. Where chapter two largely served as a strengthening of existing skills, Chapter three will be a venture into pre-algebraic concepts like equations involving variables as well as how to add and subtract expressions involving variables. This week, students will be responsible for three assignments, their weekly homework(twenty-four problems), their weekly notes, and the end-chapter-2 Quiz.  This week is also important as it is the end of the grading window for quarter one.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 9/8/2025

Hello All! This week, our students will come to the end of chapter two, the study of multiplication and division of rational numbers. On Thursday of this week, we will have a brief quiz on the latter sections of this second chapter. Otherwise, notes from this week will be collected on Friday, and homework is due this coming Monday (9/16/2024). This week's homework will consist of twenty-eight problems. As students grow in their experience completing homework assignments, I aim to slowly increase the length of these assignments as a means of gradually growing their academic stamina and fortitude over the course of the year.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 9/2/2025

Hello Everyone! During this week, rational numbers(Think: decimals and fractions). Particularly how to convert between the two, how such conversions can make many problems easier, and how to solve expressions and equations involving such numbers. As this week is a four-day week, our homework will consist of twenty-six problems on the aforementioned subject matter (roughly 7 problems per night, or 4 including the weekend) this week or  and we will have a breif quiz on Thursday of this week.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 8/25/2025

This fourth week will be a busy one for our seventh graders. We will open the week by finishing chapter one and we will move into chapter 2 of our book on Tuesday. By the end of the week, we will have finished sections 2.1 and 2.2 of our curriculum. These sections progress out of addition and subtraction and into the multiplication and division of integers. This continues with our current theme of strengthening students' foundation so that they may prosper throughout their continuing education. This week, students will have; The end-of-chapter 1 quiz, this week's homework, and the quiz on sections 2.1-2.2.

Math 7 Class Update - Week of 8/18/2025

During this third week of the school year, students will be focusing their attention on sections 1.4 and 1.5 of our book(Subtraction of integers and rational numbers). Whilst these sections serve largely as review, many students benefit from the reexposure to the fundamentals of math that these sections of our curriculum provide. They serve to strengthen students' foundational knowledge as we work into more complex subject matter. Homework for this week will be due on the following Monday, it will be twenty problems in length. Additionally, we will have a quiz on sections 1.4 and 1.5 on Thursday, and finally we will end the week with our chapter 1 test.

Math 7 - Class Update Week of 8/10/2025

During this second week of school we will be embarking on our mathematical journey for this year. In the beginning, we start with the basics to solidify our existing knowledge and provide a strong base for all that we have yet to learn this year. This week, in particular, we will start by covering the mechanics of rational numbers. Including what defines a rational number, what an integer is, values, and using operations to manipulate rationals in the context of math problems. The homework has 25 problems which reflect on previous years of study and will be reviewed throughout this week.

First Week back - 25/26 Schoolyear

Hello Parents and welcome back to another year at Westgate. I'm excited to have the opportunity to teach your students and to help them progress in both their aptitude and enjoyment of mathematics. In this first week back, we will be starting with some administrative work in reintroducing students to the expectations of the classroom as well as providing them with an outline for what can be expected for this coming year. In the latter half of the week, we will be taking our precourse test to develop a benchmark against which we can compare student's base of knowledge at the end of the year. At the beginning of the week, I will be sending home a few documents for you to look over. Particularly, The behavior and expectations student contact for this year, the syllabus for my class, as well as my parent letter which will include several things. Included in the parent letter will be: A brief outline of my philosophy and style of teaching; best method of contact for myself; instructions on how to access assignments, grades, and helpful resources for both homework and additional practice through both Microsoft Teams and Big Ideas Math; and the role I will be asking you to play in your student's acquisition of class material throughout the year. Please review both the behavior and expectations contract as well as the class syllabus with your students. Then, sign both and have your student return them the following day. Thank you so much for the investment and care you put into your child's life and education. Please feel free to reach out if ever you need anything.
