This week students will be reading Who Wants to Move to Mars? 
 
Skills students will be working on include:
-making inferences
-identifying the central idea
-determining facts vs opinions
 
Thursday, students will be taking the reading quiz for Who Wants to Move to Mars?

Request to Keep Classroom Free of ChapStick, Lip Products, and Lotions

Hello,
 
Thank you for your help keeping our classroom safe. Please ensure that no make-up, ChapStick, lip gloss, or lotion is brought into my classroom. These items do not list allergens, and we have had two incidents where lip products caused allergic reactions. For the safety of students and staff with allergies, please do not allow these items in the classroom.

Week of November 11th

This week students will be reading a poem about Paul Revere. They will be identifying different parts of a poem, and using figurative language to answer questions and analyze the poem. 
 
Students will also be completing their biographies.

This week in Language Arts we will be learning to read from first person point of view to figure out what is fact and what is a biased opinion. They will also be writing their first draft of their biographies.

We are working on using realistic fiction to identify literary elements, figurative language, and point of view in writing. 
 
We will begin researching to write biographies.

This week, students will be drafting their own informative essays. We have already written our introductions, outlining our entire essay. Students will have a five-paragraph essay by the end of this week.

This week we will be discussing different types of text structures. We will be focusing on Cause/Effect and why an author would write a text that uses cause and effect.

This week students will be focusing on theme/ central idea of a text. Students will also talk about character motives in a story, and how positive and negative endings add to their themes. Then this will incorporate those ideas into writing their own imaginative stories.

This week we will be working on asking questions about the text we are reading and finding the answers in teh text. We will also be working on monitoring our comprehension. Students will be writing their personal narratives.
