We will continue working in Chapter 7, Area, Surface Area and Volume.

7.2 - Area of a Triangle
7.3 Area of a trapezoid and kite.
7.4 Three-dimensional figures

Thursday we will have the Thinking Classroom, and we will continue where we left off last week where students are using area to solve a word problem.

February 23-27

The students will finish taking the Chapter 6 Assessment over Equations, and then take a pretest for Chapter 7, Area, Surface Area and Volume.

Tuesday we will dive into Chapter 7
  • 7.1 Areas of Parallelograms
  • 7.2 Areas of Triangles

Thursday we will do a new lesson for Thinking Classroom with Mrs. Cundari.

February 17-20

We will continue working on warm up review math skills at the beginning of class.
We will finish Chapter 6, Equations material this week and take the Chapter 6 Assessment, and then move on to Chapter 7, area, surface area, and volume.

Thursday Mrs. Cundari will come into to guide the students with the thinking classroom lesson.

February 9-13

The Benchmark Assessment took longer than expected so we didn't get as far in Chapter 6 as I thought that we would.

We will focus on Chapter 6.
  • 6.2 Solving Equations Using Addition or Subtraction
  • 6.3 Solving Equations Using Multiplication or Division
  • 6.4 Writing Equations in Two Variables
Thursday we will have our Thinking Classroom lesson.  Again, I am amazed by the greatness that the students accomplish during this time, and their ability to communicate their math thinking improves every week.

February 2-6

This week we will put the learning from Chapter 5 into practice with Chapter 6, Equations.
  • 6.1 Writing Equations in One Variable
  • 6.2 Solving Equations Using Addition or Subtraction
  • 6.3 Solving Equations Using Multiplication or Division
  • 6.4 Writing Equations in Two Variables
Thursday we will dig into our Thinking Classroom lesson.  Last week we starting looking and geometric shapes.

January 26-30

This week in Math we will finishing working on factoring expressions, review for the Chapter 5 Assessment, and begin Chapter 6.

Chapter 6 is putting into practice the properties that were learned in Chapter 5, the Associative, Communitive, and Distributive property to solve algebraic equations.

We will continue to review at the beginning of class basic math skills to keep strategies sharp with the 6th grade math.

Thursday we will carry on with our Thinking Classroom activities!

January 20-27

This week in math we will continue with our warmups reviewing math skills.
We will finish up Chapter 5, learning about the associative, communitive and distributive properties. The students will take the Chapter 5 assessment on Friday.
Thursday we will spend time with the thinking classroom and continue working on critical thinking skills for math concepts.

January 12-16

Happy New Year and welcome back!

This week will be diving into Chapter 5, Algebraic Expressions and Properties will be creating a foundation for Chapter 6.

We will start each day with a review of skills to ensure that students have all the math skills in order to be successful.

On Thursday, we will continue our Thinking Classroom activities with Mrs. Cundari.  This is definitely a highlight for the students and us!  It is incredible to see the students using their math skills to answer open ended questions and communicate their logic for solving the problem.

December 15-19

Monday the students will finish up their Chapter 4, percents, fractions and decimals assessment and take the Chapter 5, Algebraic expressions pretest.
We will have a review week and take the Math MAPS assessment on Wednesday.

This week we will focus on wrapping up and reviewing before Winter Break.

December 8-12

Next week we will dive into Chapter 5, Algebraic Expressions and Properties

December 1-5

This week we will start Chapter 4, Percents and Fractions.
We will focus on vocabulary words and strategies on how to change percents to fractions and fractions into percents.

Thursday will be a thinking classroom day where we have been working on Chapter 10 content.  The students have been doing an incredible job of explaining their math thinking.
