February 2-6

This week we will put the learning from Chapter 5 into practice with Chapter 6, Equations. 
  • 6.1 Writing Equations in One Variable
  • 6.2 Solving Equations Using Addition or Subtraction
  • 6.3 Solving Equations Using Multiplication or Division
  • 6.4 Writing Equations in Two Variables
Thursday we will dig into our Thinking Classroom lesson.  Last week we starting looking and geometric shapes. 

January 26-30

This week in Math we will finishing working on factoring expressions, review for the Chapter 5 Assessment, and begin Chapter 6. 
 
Chapter 6 is putting into practice the properties that were learned in Chapter 5, the Associative, Communitive, and Distributive property to solve algebraic equations. 
 
We will continue to review at the beginning of class basic math skills to keep strategies sharp with the 6th grade math.
 
Thursday we will carry on with our Thinking Classroom activities!  

January 20-27

This week in math we will continue with our warmups reviewing math skills. 
We will finish up Chapter 5, learning about the associative, communitive and distributive properties. The students will take the Chapter 5 assessment on Friday.  
Thursday we will spend time with the thinking classroom and continue working on critical thinking skills for math concepts. 

January 12-16

Happy New Year and welcome back!
 
This week will be diving into Chapter 5, Algebraic Expressions and Properties will be creating a foundation for Chapter 6. 
 
We will start each day with a review of skills to ensure that students have all the math skills in order to be successful. 
 
On Thursday, we will continue our Thinking Classroom activities with Mrs. Cundari.  This is definitely a highlight for the students and us!  It is incredible to see the students using their math skills to answer open ended questions and communicate their logic for solving the problem. 

December 15-19

Monday the students will finish up their Chapter 4, percents, fractions and decimals assessment and take the Chapter 5, Algebraic expressions pretest.
We will have a review week and take the Math MAPS assessment on Wednesday.  
 
This week we will focus on wrapping up and reviewing before Winter Break. 

December 8-12

This week in math we will review Chapter 4 content today and then take the Chapter 4 Assessment on Tuesday.  We are going to change our Thinking Classroom activity to Wednesday this week as we will be taking the Reading MAPS assessment on Thursday and the Math MAPS assessment on Friday. 
 
Next week we will dive into Chapter 5, Algebraic Expressions and Properties 

December 1-5

This week we will start Chapter 4, Percents and Fractions. 
We will focus on vocabulary words and strategies on how to change percents to fractions and fractions into percents. 
 
Thursday will be a thinking classroom day where we have been working on Chapter 10 content.  The students have been doing an incredible job of explaining their math thinking. 

November 17-21

Last week we finished Chapter 3, Rates and Ratios.
 
This week we are going to review math skills from Chapter 1 - 3 and complete any unfinished work.  After Thanksgiving break we will start Chapter 4, percents and decimals. 
 
Thursday we will have our Thinking Classroom lesson. 

November 11-14

This week we will finish Chapter 3, Rate and Ratios.
 
3.5 - Unit Rates
3.6 - Customary Measurement 
We will then review the Chapter 3 material and complete the assessment.
 
We will not have the Thinking Classroom this week due to it being a short week.  

November 3-7

This week we will continue working in Chapter 3, Monday through Wednesday:
3.4 - Graphing Ratio Relationships
3.5 - Rates and Unit Rates
3.6 - Converting Measurements
 
Thursday we will having our Thinking Classroom lesson with Mrs. Cundari. 
Friday will be a day to catch up, reteach, and complete any assignments that may have been missed. 

November 3-7

This week we will continue working in Chapter 3, Monday through Wednesday:
3.4 - Graphing Ratio Relationships
3.5 - Rates and Unit Rates
3.6 - Converting Measurements
 
Thursday we will having our Thinking Classroom lesson with Mrs. Cundari. 
Friday will be a day to catch up, reteach, and complete any assignments that may have been missed. 

October 27-31

This week in Math we will be starting Chapter 3, Rates and Ratios. 
 
We are going to move to a whole classroom instructions model as I believe this will better fit the needs of the students. 
 
We will be looking at ratios, tape diagrams, and ratio tables this week. 
 
Thursday Mrs. Cundari will be coming in to help guide the students with the Thinking Classroom model. Last week we looked at Chapter 10 content using a stem and leaf table. 
 
On Friday, this will be dedicated to making up material from Chapter 2 for the students who didn't complete Chapter 2 while using our small group model.

October 20-24

We will have math class on Thursday and Friday of this week, due to outdoor education. 
 
Thursday and Friday we will get back into our small group instruction for Chapter 2 and 3 based on the needs of the students. We will revisit expectations for classroom procedures. 

September 29 - October 2

Math this week we will be finishing up with Chapter 2 in all groups, and then the students will take a Benchmark test which consists of math skills from Chapter 1 and 2.  All of the groups will then move into Chapter 3, Rates and Ratios. 
 
Thursday Mrs. Cundari will be coming in for the math Thinking Classroom. 

September 22-26

In Math this week we will be finish working with Chapter 2, Fractions and Decimals. We are multiplying and dividing fractions, adding, subtracting, and dividing decimals.  If you have real life problems with any of these math skills, quiz your child and have them complete the problem. 
 
On Thursday, we will be having Thinking Classroom with Mrs. Cundari.  The students love this day and enjoy exploring math concepts and talking about their thinking.
