Week of 2/2

We will be working on science experiments this week, make sure your student comes in with their science experiment things this week!

Science Fair

Please make sure your student has their experiment supplies by Monday, February 2nd. This is when we will be starting experiments.

Week of 1/26

This week in science students will prepare the materials they need to bring for their Science Fair experiments.

  • Each student will create a clear list of the items required for their experiment.
  • Partners should divide the list and each bring only the items they’re responsible for.
  • Students working individually must bring all listed materials.
  • I will provide basic classroom supplies (cups, plates, bowls, measuring cups and spoons, salt, forks, spoons, etc.), so please only send any additional or special items your child lists.
  • we will be starting experiments on either Thursday or Friday

Please remind your child to check their list and label any personal items. Thanks for helping make our Science Fair a success!

Week of 1/12

Hello families — exciting news: we’re jumping into our Science Fair! Key details for this week:

  • We’ll learn partners, or if they chose to do it alone they won't have one and choose our Science Fair question.
  • Students will write their hypothesis, create a materials list, and draft the procedure for their experiment.
  • Reminder: all experiments will be conducted IN SCHOOL.
  • I will supply basic items (cups, bowls, plates, salt, tin foil, measuring cups). Any food or special materials your child needs must be purchased — partners may split costs.
  • Students will bring home their materials list so you know what to send in.

Ask your student what their experiment question is — and I’ll share the fair date as soon as it’s set.

IMPORTANT** if your student is chronically absent ( once a week or more) they will need to do the Science Fair on their own**

Week of 12/15

  • We will finish and present our student-created posters about natural disasters.
  • Throughout the week we will begin learning about the scientific method and start discussing the upcoming Science Fair (project expectations and timelines).

Please encourage your child to practice explaining their poster at home — it helps build confidence for presentations. Contact me with any questions about the Science Fair.

Week of 11/11

Monday: Service learning — students will learn how to walk and care for goats safely.

Midweek: Climate zones — we’ll look at different climate types around the world and what makes them different.

Later in the week: Extreme weather — we’ll learn about storms, heat waves, floods, and more.

End of week: How extreme weather affects people — we’ll talk about impacts on homes, health, jobs, and ways people stay safe.

Week of 11/3

This week in Science, we will be finishing our Weather and Climate unit. We’ll explore topics like predicting weather using clouds, understanding why the wind blows, different climate zones, extreme weather events, and how extreme weather affects people.

Week of 10/27

This week in Science, students will take a quiz on Lessons 1–6 on Monday. The quiz is online and includes audio support for students who need questions read aloud. On Tuesday, we will have a service learning activity with Mrs. Khan, where students will go outside to collect leaves for the goats and chickens and discuss the importance of this task. We will also begin making a water cycle box and start Lesson 7, exploring the question: Can clouds predict the weather? Please note, there will be no science on Friday due to our Halloween party.

Week of 10/20

This week, we’re exploring important questions about the natural world! Students will learn: What are seasons? How do we measure temperature? Why is there water in the air? These topics help us understand weather and climate better. On Friday, we will review lessons 1–6 to prepare for our mid-unit quiz.

How You Can Support at Home

Encourage your child to share what they’ve learned and ask questions about the weather you observe together. Discussing these ideas helps deepen their understanding.

Week of 9/29

In science this week, we are learning how to measure weather by exploring different tools used for weather observation. Students will research instruments like thermometers, rain gauges, and wind vanes to understand how they help us track weather conditions. We will also be discussing the four seasons and how weather changes throughout the year.

Week of 9/15

This week is full of hands-on learning! On Monday, we have our field trip. Tuesday, we’ll finish building our ramps, and on Wednesday, we’ll test them to see how they work. After that, we’ll begin an exciting new unit on weather and climate.

Week of 9/8

On Monday and Tuesday, students will participate in a Kahoot review game to prepare for the upcoming unit test. The Kahoot will be posted on my Edlio page later in the week for extra practice. Wednesday will be our Unit test.

Thursday and Friday are all about hands-on learning with a group project. Students will work together to build ramps and test which materials make a car go faster and farther. If your child would like to bring in materials to share with their group, they are welcome to do so.

What are we doing this week?

This week in science, we will be learning about electric force and electromagnets. On Thursday and Friday, we will spend time reviewing the material in preparation for our test next week. I am working on getting the test set up online via Teams so that students who need assistance can have the questions read to them
