Missing Work Deadline

I wanted to share a brief announcement: this Friday, May 9, will be the final day I will accept any missing assignments from previous weeks. As we move into the final stretch of the semester, we’ll be focusing on some major projects, and I will have a lot of grading to complete!

If your student has any outstanding work, please ensure it is submitted by this Friday. Thank you for your attention and support!

The Book Thief - Week 2

This week, students are expected to read pages 123–238 of The Book Thief. We are administering weekly quizzes to ensure students are staying on track with their reading.

As we approach the end of the school year, please review Infinite Campus (IC) with your student, as there are currently many missing assignments. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support!

Novel Study

Good afternoon, 8th grade families!

Today we kicked off our novel study of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. This powerful story, narrated by Death, follows a young girl named Liesel living in Nazi Germany. As she discovers the power of words and books, she forms deep connections and uncovers moments of hope in a time of darkness.

Over the next five weeks, students will not have traditional homework. Instead, their weekly assignment will be to read the chapters assigned for that week. I will post the reading schedule each Monday, and students should have those chapters completed by the following Monday.

This week students are reading to page 122.

At the moment, we are using printed copies of the first 122 pages of the novel while we wait for our classroom set of books to arrive.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns—I’m happy to help!

Warmly,

Mrs. St. Clair

Missing Homework Deadline

Dear Middle School Families,

This week, there will be no assigned homework in ELA. I encourage you to take this opportunity to check Infinite Campus to review any missing assignments your student may have.

Students have until Friday to submit any outstanding homework for credit. After this deadline, any remaining missing assignments will be finalized with a grade of 1.

All homework assignments can be found on our Teams page under Classwork → Quarter 3 Homework.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Thank you for your continued support!

ELA Updates!

Dear Middle School Families,

Happy New Year! As we begin the second semester, I’d like to share a few updates with you:

  1. Weekly Warm-Up Grades
Students will now receive weekly grades for their warm-up activities. Each week, students are expected to complete five warm-ups, which will be worth a total of 100 points. These warm-ups will be checked every Friday to ensure they are complete. This practice is designed to support students in developing their executive functioning skills.

  2. Weekly Homework Schedule
Homework will continue on a weekly basis this semester, but changing with assignments being given on Monday and due by Friday. This consistent schedule aims to help students manage their time effectively throughout the week.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m looking forward to a productive and successful semester with your students!

Book Club Unit - Homework Update

Good afternoon families!

I am excited to announce the start of our Book Club Unit! Each student has been assigned to a book club based on a title they selected and believed they would enjoy reading. Over the next few weeks, instead of weekly homework packets, students will be assigned specific chapters to read and complete by the end of each week.
Please remind your student not to read ahead, as it’s important that we progress through the books together to avoid any spoilers during our discussions and activities.
I encourage you to engage with your student about their reading and have conversations about the themes, characters, and progress they are making in their book clubs.
Additionally, I will be accepting any missing homework that students have not yet submitted. Please check Infinite Campus (IC) to review your student's current homework status, and remember that all assignments are also posted online in Microsoft Teams.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to an engaging and enriching experience for all students in this unit!
