April 29 - May 3

This week we will look at citizenship; how it has changes, take the citizenship test and have a discussion describing the depth and complexity question of how citizenship has changed over time and what characteristics have stayed the same. 
 
We will then move into Economics and learn the basics by using the depth and complexity of the language of discipline by words that are used by experts in economics. 

April 29 - May 3

April 21 - 25

This week in Social Studies students will pick two governments to research and compare and contract. They will then share with another group and reflect on how governments around the world affect culture. 
 
Next, we will move into learning about citizenship. The students will look at the Depth and Complexity from multiple perspectives of how citizenship affects culture. 

April 14 - 18

The students will continue learning about Civics by learning about the three branches of government, how a Bill Becomes a Law, and then research two governments and compare and contrast with another group by using the Depth and Complexity Conversational pieces. 

April 7-11

Welcome back!
 
This week our schedule will be a little different due to CMAS testing.  
After testing in the morning, the 6th graders will switch for the Social Studies A and B classes before recess.  
 
Monday we will recap our field to Young Ameri Towne, and the students will complete the posttest to access the skills that they acquired from learning about running a town. 
 
Tuesday through Friday we will move into to Civics and looking at the different types of government and looking how a Bill becomes a law. 

March 17-21

Young Ameri Towne is here!
 
On Wednesday, we will be attending the Young Ameri Towne field trip.  Thank you to Mrs. Lounsbury for helping us with the training of positions and helping with the staff meetings at the end of last week.  We were able to split the students into two groups and accomplish all the training that we needed to complete before the field trip. 
 
After we attend the field trip on Wednesday, we will do a follow up and complete a post assessment in our Young Ameri Towne booklet to showcase the learning that all the students acquired over the last several weeks. 

March 10-14

We will continue preparing for our Young AmeriTowne field Trip.  We are almost there!
 
Last week the students found out their job and created a checkbook to use on the field trip.  
 
This week we will continue practicing writing checks and get more familiar with their job in preparation for their trip to Young AmeriTowne. 

March 3-5

This week we will look at Philanthropy, the town preparation banking for our trip, and then on Wednesday I hope to announce the jobs that they students will be working on our trip. 
 
A special thank you to the parents that came and helped with our interviews on Friday.  It was such a great success, and the students took the interviews so serious.  We have some amazing leaders on our hands. 

February 24-28

We will continue working on our Young Ameri Towne curriculum this week.  
We will talk about money management, ethics and philanthropy.  At the middle of the week the students will fill out their job application and go through the interview process.  If you volunteered to help with interviews, I will be reaching out to you at the beginning of the week to give your more information of the process.  

February 18-21

In Social Studies, we are continue working on our Young Ameri Towne curriculum electing a Mayor and Judge.  They will create laws that we should abide by while on our field trip.  We will continue working through the curriculum in preparation for our field trip on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.  I sent out a permission slip to you on Friday, February 14 to sign as well as their opportunities for chaperone, and help with job interviews on Friday, February 28.

February 10-14

We will continue working on our Young AmeriTowne curriculum.  
 
This week we will focus on:
What is Banking?
Introduction to Checking Accounts
How to use a Debit Card.
 
Next, we will move into Government:
How government works and develops laws, voting and primary elections, campaigns, and general election. 
 
More information will be coming for our field trip to Young AmeriTowne soon. 

February 3 - 7

This week we will start preparing for our Field Trip to AmeriTowne on March 19.  
 
The students will be learning about what real life economics and civics which is connected to the 6th grade social studies curriculum.  
 
We will discuss "What is AmeriTowne?", the layout of the town, what jobs are available to apply for, and the components of having a bank account. 

January 27-31

Monday the students will share their Enlightenment thinker presentation where the students will do a Gallery Walk. 
 
For the rest of the week, we will be exploring the Latin American revolutions and how that brought change to different countires. 

January 21 - 24

The students will continue working on their key figure based on the Enlightenment Era and then we will have a Gallery Walk to share their findings. 
We will then move into exploring the independence revolutions for Latin American countires. 

January 13 - 17

This week in Social Studies we will review the norms for working successfully in class. 
 
We will review the four parts of Social Studies:
-History
-Economics,
-Geography
- Civics
 
We will then continue our journey of looking at the result of the Spanish conquering the Latin American culture and how it affected all of those civilizations.
