This week in Social Studies we will be learning about the regions in the Western Hemisphere, the geographical features, the climate, and how humans respond to the geography and climate. 

 

We will then move into to culture and the components that are in human geography. 

We didn't get as far as I intended las week so we will start our Five Themes of Geography Project this week. 

 

The students will pick a place anywhere in the world and research how the five themes are represented for that place. (location, region, place, movement and human environment interaction)

 

After the research is complete the students will create a poster to showcase their learning for their chosen location. 

In Social Studies this week, we will learn about the Five Themes of Geography: location, movement, region, place and human environmental interaction.  The students will look at a case study for a theme and then share in a small group so that they have an understanding of each theme. 

 

At the end of the week students will start planning a Five Themes of Geography project that connects to real-world issues such as urban planning and cultural diversity.  Students will explore how geography influences daily life, community development and global interactions.  Students will see the relevance of geography in understanding current events and interconnectedness of societies. 

We are cruising right along with geography. 

 

At the end of last week, the students learned how to find locations using latitude and longitude.  This week we will look at the different hemispheres and how different locations are affected due to geographical locations.  The students will also do a scavenger hunt using Google Earth to find landforms and bodies of water. We will finish out the week by looking at the Five Themes of Geography; Place, Location, Region, Human Environment Interactions and Movement.
