2/18-2/21

We are going to present our Ute Timeline powerpoints to our class on Thursday. Then, we are going to transition into learning about Kit Carson, Mountain Men, and Fur Trappers.

2/10-2/14

This week students will finish their research for our class Ute timeline. They will then create powerpoint presentations about their research and teach their classmates about the important time in history that they learned about.

2/3-2/7

This week we create a timeline of important events in Ute history with the U.S. government. Students will learn about different treaties and interactions the Ute had with colonizers in the Colorado area.
 
Also, February is Black History Month! Our social studies class will be working with Ms. Small's science class each Friday to learn about important black scientists and historians from/in Colorado. We will also be learning about HBCUs and important members of the Civil Rights Movement.

1/27-1/31

This week we continue learning about the Ute Tribe (Mountain Ute and Southern Ute) and the Ancestral Puebloans. Students will learn about different treaties and interactions each group had with colonizers in the Colorado area.

1/21-1/24

This week we continue learning about the Ute Tribe (Mountain Ute and Southern Ute) and the Ancestral Puebloans. We will compare and contrast the different cultures and learn about their interactions with the colonizers in Colorado.

1/13-1/17

This week we will finish up our lesson on refugees and begin to learn about the history and impact of the Ute Mountain tribe and the Southern Ute tribe in Colorado.
 
For this quarter, we will be focusing on this essential question (among others): How have past events influenced present-day Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region?

12/16-12/20

This week, we are exploring the courage of refugees, both in our country and around the world. We will also draw connections to the experiences of Indigenous people in our own country, who have faced displacement from their homes.
 
Reminder: We have a field trip to the History Colorado Center on Friday!

12/9-12/13

This week we are learning about reading coordinates on maps in Colorado and where different Indigenous tribes are from.

12/2-12/6

This week we are focusing on Indigenous people and constellations. Students will learn the importance of oral history, myth, and nature/earth in different cultures. Students will also create their own constellation pattern.
