10/14-10/18

We are continuing our work in Module 2, "come to your senses". In this unit, we will answer the essential question, "How do people and animals use their senses to navigate the world?".  We are reading "Blind Ambition" and "The Game of Silence".
 
Students will learn about writing and reading informational texts. It allows students to identify central ideas, text and graphic features, and media techniques to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter a personal narrative and historical fiction to build knowledge across genres.
 

We are also hoping to finish reading our class book "The Wild Robot" in the next few weeks so we can start our next book called "Save Me a Seat".

9/23-9/26

This week, students are engaging in an exciting activity called "Who Stole the Garden Gnome?". This interactive lesson strengthens key skills such as research, inference, using text features and evidence, reading comprehension, as well as comparing and contrasting.
 
We will also continue our work in Module 2, "come to your senses", focusing on informational text.

9/16-9/20

We are continuing our work in Module 2, "come to your senses". In this unit, we will answer the essential question, "How do people and animals use their senses to navigate the world?".  The genre focus of this unit is on informational text. It allows students to identify central ideas, text and graphic features, and media techniques to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter a personal narrative and historical fiction to build knowledge across genres.
 
Students are writing their final drafts of their personal narratives this week and practicing peer editing. We will be reading books about apex predators and the science behind sight.

We have transitioned into Module 2, "come to your senses". In this unit, we will answer the essential question, "How do people and animals use their senses to navigate the world?".  The genre focus of this unit is on informational text. It allows students to identify central ideas, text and graphic features, and media techniques to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter a personal narrative and historical fiction to build knowledge across genres.
 
We are also working on our personal narratives. 

9/2-9/6

After completing DIBELS testing last week, we were unable to finish Module 1. This week we will read "Kitoto the Mighty" and continue to focus on the main idea of the module, "What makes us who we are".
 
Then, we will transition into Module 2, "come to your senses". In this unit, we will answer the essential question, "How do people and animals use their senses to navigate the world?".  The genre focus of this unit is on informational text. It allows students to identify central ideas, text and graphic features, and media techniques to better understand unfamiliar texts. Students will also encounter a personal narrative and historical fiction to build knowledge across genres.

8/26-8/30

This week we will be finishing Module 1 entitled, “what makes us who we are”. We will finish working on “Yes! We are Latino” and move on to “Kitoto the Mighty”. We will focus on learning to recognize the characteristics of a folktale, retell events, gain exposure to literary elements, identify theme, and analyze the author’s craft.

8/19-23

We are continuing our first reading and writing unit called, "What Makes Us Who We Are?". We finished reading "Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures", and are using the text to help us explore the central idea of a text, how to ask and answer questions, the author's purpose, text and graphic features, and figurative language.

We have begun our first reading and writing unit of the year called, "What Makes Us Who We Are?" We will be exploring the central idea of a text, how to ask and answer questions, the author's purpose, text and graphic features, and figurative language.
