April 29th-May 3rd

This week we are focusing all on fables and folktales! Students will not only read wonderful stories to help strengthen their understanding of morals, plot diagrams, and theme, but will continue to write their own. We will finish up our partner fable writing from last week and transition into writing our own fables. By the end of May, our class with a have a "published" book of stories to take home.

Our next unit is reading and writing poetry. I recommend talking about this at home because this unit can be challenging for students to grasp (figurative language is hard!).

We will also celebrate AAPI Heritage month!

April 22-26

This week we are taking CMAS ELA. Make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and has something to eat before testing starts. They are going to crush it!

We are also working on our Social Studies Night of the Notables biographies! Students are working hard researching and learning. We also finished up presentations on our projects: "be the teacher", "unsolved mysteries", and "criminally underrated".

April 15th-19th

This week we are taking CMAS Math. Make sure your student gets a good night's sleep and has something to eat before testing starts. They are going to crush it!

We are going to work on grammar review and fable writing during ELA. We will also work on a fun activity called, "A Grimm Adventure"! This consists of word puzzles and reading challenges using Grimm's fairytales.

April 8th-12th

Welcome back from spring break! This week we are working on identifying fragment vs. run-on sentences in texts and in our writing. We are also working on reviewing story elements: main idea/details, fact vs. opinion, moral/theme, context clues, plot diagrams, and problems/resolutions. Students are also continuing to read their Novel Study Books and identify character relationships and traits.

This week we will be working on a short project for Women's History Month and will present their projects from Black History Month! Students will apply their knowledge of research and informative writing to these essays/projects.
