Due to the snow day last week, we weren't able to finish the Native American Murals. Monday the students will present, and we will then take notes on the specific Native American regions and compare and contrast the different elements.
Jan. 17-20
Last week we lost two days of Social Studies due to the MAP testing; however, the students were ready to get back on track with their murals. Our goal is to have the Murals complete by the end of the week and share with the rest of the class.
There is some incredible creativity happening while they are showing their learning for their chosen Native American group.
I am excited to hang the murals up on the POD to creative our own Native American scene.

This week in Social Studies, the students will continue working on their Native American Murals. We started before break, and we will take off trying to finish this week. We will only have Social Studies class, Monday, Tuesday and Friday as we will be taking the MAP test on Wednesday and Thursday.

We will only have two days of Social Studies this week as we will be having our Holiday Party on Wednesday afternoon.
Last week the students picked a Native American region to research and then they will take their information and create a mural to showcase their learning. Originally, I wanted to finish before Holiday break; however, the process is going to need more time so they will finish after break.
Dec. 5-9
We will be focusing on Native Americans by completing the flip book that they constructed on Friday. After we finish discussing and understanding the regions that the different Native American's lived in the United States. They will compare and contrast their world today to the Native American culture by writing an essay. Finally, in a small group, the students will research a Native American group and great a Mural showing their learning.
Nov. 28- Dec. 2
Welcome back from Thanksgiving Break!
In Social Studies class, we will finish the Inca and Aztec notes and discussion. Then we will move on to the Native American Culture where the students will be making a flipbook and learning about the regions within the United States and focus on one Native American Culture.
Nov. 14-18
The Sale Pitch that the students created and shared last week were creative and very convincing!
This week we will spend some time looking at the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas. We will learn about how the Spanish invaded these civilizations and the outcome.
Nov. 7-10
The students last week chose a Western Hemisphere civilization either the Maya, Aztec or Incas to research. After the research is complete, the students are to create a sales pitch that they will present to the other two members of their group to convince the members that their civilization is the best out of all three. The students will be presenting their sales pitch on Tuesday. We will finish out the week comparing and contrasting what the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas brought into our World that we are still using today.
Oct. 31 - Nov. 4
The focus for the week with Social Studies will be researching and comparing and contrasting the Ancient Civilizations of the Mayas, Aztecs and Incas.
The students will use a map to color code the Ancient Civilizations as to have a better understanding of geographical civilizations in the Western Hemisphere.
We will then finish with a project to apply their researched knowledge.
Oct. 24-28
Last week we learned a foundation about Early Humans, and this week our focus will be looking at the Ancient Civilizations of the Western Hemisphere, Olmec, Mayas and Aztecs.
The students will start out by creating a timeline of Ancient Civilizations. We will then move forward by looking at the Olmecs and the Mayas through vocabulary, notes, and small projects.
I have created classes for my Social Studies classes which will give assignments and readings.
October 17-21
So glad to be back in the swing of things!
For Social Studies this week, we will be starting Ancient Civilizations. We will begin by focusing on Early Humans and the characteristics, tools and culture that they brought to our World. The focus will be on vocabulary and essential questions for the students to reflection and process how our lives are affected due to this early civilization.
Sept. 26 - 30
We will finish up lookin at Human Geography specifically looking at population. The students will have 3 stations that they will rotate through to look at population a little deeper. We will be reviewing Culture and Population and follow up the end of the week with an assessment for the students to showcase their learning.
Sept. 19-23
The students will be finishing up their research on Culture. The students chose either school lunches or cell phone etiquette to research within the United States and three other countries. After the researching is completed, they will be creating a PowerPoint to showcase their learning.
We will continue with Human Geography with the focus on Population. Vocabulary will be presented and then the students will complete three station projects all pertaining to population.
Week 12-16
The focus for Social Studies this week is Culture. We will be taking notes, doing a Culture Scavenger Hunt, and finish with a Culture Project. We will be looking at all of the components that help to create culture, and they will use this knowledge to investigate and discover culture of a different country. There will be several project choices of how students can show their new learning of culture such as posters, PowerPoint or a paper.
Sept. 6-9
In Social Studies this week, the students will receive feedback on their physical geography assessment. We will then move forward looking at human geography and exploring the characteristics such as culture, government, and population.
